K. Rowling - The World's First Billionaire Author

K. Rowling made history in 2004 as she became the first billionaire author in history. Also, according to Guinness World Records, she became one of only five self-made female billionaires.

The 'Harry Potter' series written by Rowling has sold over 600 million copies, been translated into 84 languages, and adapted into a global media franchise including films and video games.

Although the series ended in 2007 with the release of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', the Harry Potter books are still selling in bulk amounts across the world today.

Notably, Rowling has used a huge amount of her wealth for charity. She has co-founded the charity Lumos and established the Volant Charitable Trust, leading several philanthropic activities throughout the world.

In 2012, she was removed from Forbes' list of World Billionaires due to her donations to charity, as well as the high British taxes she was asked to pay.
