Good News Of The Day: Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway Likely To Be Completed Before Maha Kumbh Mela In January 2025

The Uttar Pradesh government is looking to complete the Ganga Expressway between Meerut and Prayagraj, by January 2025.

If you are planning to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela in January 2025, there’s some good news for you! Well, the Uttar Pradesh government is making all efforts to wrap up the 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway before January 2025. Being built on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the expressway is expected to cost Rs 36,000 crore.

The Ganga expressway, which will stretch from Meerut to Prayagraj and will pass through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, will be able to give a much-needed boost to the economy of the region. Not just that, it will make it easier for pilgrims to reach Prayagraj if they are planning to attend the Kumbh Mela.

While the original completion deadline for Ganga Expressway was December 2025, the government is now pushing the developers to complete it by the end of 2024, which is a year prior. For the same, the UP government has promised financial incentives to the developers, if they would be able to meet the deadline.

To say the least, the completion of the Ganga Expressway is slated to be a major achievement for the Uttar Pradesh government. It will showcase how the state is now a modern and progressive destination for travellers apart from being a boon to the pilgrims who want to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025.

In fact, the construction of Ganga Expressway has been on track with 5% of earthwork completed in 5 months by the developers, and it looks like with the ongoing progress, it would be completed by December 2024.

For the project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in December 2021, before the state Assembly elections. The Ganga Expressway, meanwhile, is divided into four sections.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also directed officials to prioritise completion of Ganga Expressway by December 2024, well ahead of the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj in 2025. As per an official spokesman, the chief minister mentioned that the construction of the expressways and other public facilities should be made the top priority.

"All district magistrates should regularly review the progress of the construction of the expressways. There should not be any hindrance in the construction work. The district magistrates should keep the UPEIDA as well as the CM Office in the loop about the construction work," the spokesperson said.
