Challenges Faced By Women At The Workplace
Even now women regularly face stereotypical challenges and abominations at the workplace. And shockingly, the number of women facing these types of challenges are quite high. Let us talk about some of the major problems.
Sexual Misbehavior
Objectifying women as a sexual commodity has been a norm in the patriarchal society. The workspace of the same society is unsurprisingly similar to that. Problematic comments about the clothes and derogating passing comments about the body type of the women is pretty common. There are many examples of the men of the upper echelon holding promotion unless they receive sexual favors. Recently, The major reason behind the lack of reporting is the fear of losing job and lack of resources to fight against the powerful authorities.
Prejudice Against Maternity Period
Women face a huge dilemma over whether to become a mother or not. Because the prejudice against expecting women is quite intrusive. Pay is reduced by many companies while some people find them comparatively incompetent. Many companies are still reluctant to give proper maternity leave benefits even after laws have been passed. Some companies even fire them.
Intergender Pay Gap
Even though many people with improper knowledge claim that intergender pay doesn't exist, many surveys tell otherwise. On many occasions, it is likely that women get lower payment than men employees in similar positions.
Lack Of Career Growth
In most of the companies we see that the number of women occupying top positions is much less compared to men. It is harder to please higher authority in the case of women employees. They are deemed less competent and sometimes have to offer sexual favors for promotion, as discussed earlier in the article.
Period Shaming
One of the most regressive problems faced by women at working spaces is period shaming. Often when things heat up in a debate, the opponent side undermines the natural temper as the effect of the menstrual cycle which is biassed and wrong on many aspects.
Balance In Work And Life
In our society even when women work, they are not relieved of their household works by the conservative families. Hence, the pressure increases manifold on women and affects them adversely. Protesting against this injustice raises the situation of victim-blaming in many households. Hence, being independent seems to be the preferred choice of many up and coming working women nowadays.
