Restrictions in drinking and drugs As it is a highly challenging job, performing the responsibilities under the influence of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited. In cargo or cruise ships, millions of dollars of cargos are being transferred across the globe, and since the sea route is highly risky because of the matter of rapidly changing climate, it’s a big no for sailors to perform these tasks under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Penalties can be imposed if it’s ignored intentionally or accidentally. Weapons Any kind of deadly weapon is not allowed onboard ships. If a seafarer is found guilty of some charges like this, he or she has to face the consequence, which can be harsh and brutal as well. Certain ships may allow the master to have a gun for the safety of the vessel and other crew members, but not everyone can do the same. Otherwise, he or she must go through legal proceedings. Performing the responsibilities The mariners should perform their responsibilities under any circumstance or emergency.
