Sidharth Malhotra As An Off-Duty Commando In 'Yodha'; Here's A Look At Some Other Bollywood Actors Who Have Also Donned The Army Uniform

In 'Yodha', the 39-year-old actor will be seen as an off-duty commando who fights terrorists to save a hijacked flight.

"'Yodha' is something we have not seen in Hindi cinema." - Sidharth Malhotra.

Sidharth Malhotra is the 'Yodha' who fights terrorists and fires guns, and redefines ‘heroism’ while safeguarding his nation. He appears as an unstoppable force on the screen who never shies away from pushing his own boundaries, ensuring "main rahu ya na rahu, desh rahega" (whether I stay or not, the country will always remain). And well, it seems like we are going to witness an absolute blast on the big screen.

"As an artist, you would want to work on scripts that bring out the best in you. This truly unveiled a newer version of me, which I am very thankful for," said Malhotra in a recent interview.

Helmed by debutant directors duo Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre, 'Yodha' will see Malhotra as an off-duty commando who goes on to rescue a hijacked plane. After playing an army officer in Sandeep Shrivastava's 'Shershaah' and a cop in Rohit Shetty's OTT show ‘Indian Police Force', he is now all set to come back as an action hero, and we just cannot keep calm! And while the film's storyline is familiar, it promises us a fresh experience in terms of its storytelling.

'Yodha' is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 15, 2024. As we gear up, let's take a moment and look back at the other Bollywood actors who have also donned the army uniform.

Sunny Deol (Border)

The list must begin with Sunny Deol as the actor's portrayal of an army officer in 'Border' is widely acclaimed. In the 1997 film directed by J. P. Dutta, Deol appeared as Maj. Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, and effectively captured the complexities as well as emotional depth of his character. Not only that, he also brought enormous authenticity to his portrayal, allowing us to empathize with the character.

Besides Deol, the epic war film also stars Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna among others.

Ajay Devgn (L.O.C Kargil)

The pain of leaving family and going to war with the possibility of never coming back - J. P. Dutta's 2003 historical war film brilliantly depicts the essence of army life, and Ajay Devgn's performance as Lt. Manoj Kumar Pandey adds loads of emotional depth to that.

The actor embodied the perfect amount of valor, strength, and resilience in his act, and at the same time, maintained subtlety as well as nuances. He seamlessly brought out the conflicts and turmoil of his character, resonating with the audience on a deeply personal level. It’s so good that the performance is still celebrated among fans.

Besides Devgn, the film also stars talents like Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Manoj Bajpayee among others.

Vicky Kaushal (URI - The Surgical Strike)

The most notable one from recent times is Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill in the 2019 military action film, 'Uri - The Surgical Strike'. The 35-year-old actor essayed the role of a military officer with brilliant precision, and whether it's the character's mindset or body language, he portrayed everything perfectly. And he balanced strength with vulnerability in a remarkable way; something that would inspire all the budding actors out there.

Kaushal underwent rigorous preparations to play the character, and his hard work is evident on the screen. Additionally, his on-screen chemistry with the rest of the cast is another highlight. The film earned him his first National Film Award and catapulted him to stardom.
