April 28, 2007 - 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' happened to Indian cinema, and the rest, as they say, is history! Everyone had been eagerly anticipating it for over two years (thanks to the phenomenal craze its predecessor 'Baahubali: The Beginning' created), speculating theory after theory on "Katappa Ne Baahubali Ko Kyun Mara?" And finally, it hit theatres and well, it was unlike anything we had seen in Indian cinema before.

From its unbelievable scale to its groundbreaking action sequences to its insane visual effects and more, director SS Rajamouli and team redefined the boundaries of Indian cinema with it, setting the bar higher for others. And the film soon became a phenomenon across the world, earning loads of acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Moreover, Prabhas, who had lived the franchise for five long years, emerged as a global sensation like no other.

Largest Screen Count

The Rajamouli directorial was released on around 8000 screens worldwide (6500 in India), making it the largest screen count ever in Indian cinema. Producer Shobu Yarlagadda shared before the film's release, "In Hindi, it is the biggest release at par with any Khan film. And all put together, it is the biggest pan-Indian film. In the US, Baahubali: The Conclusion will release in about 1,000 screens, which is the highest for any Indian film. We are also planning to convert the three books released on the film to a television series."

Highest Opening-Day Collection

'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' had a stellar collection on its opening day, showing what an Indian film could achieve! The Prabhas-Anushka Shetty starrer grossed ₹ 121 crore on day 1 through its Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam versions. Globally, it crossed ₹200 crore mark on the day.

The Hindi version of 'Bahubali 2' collected ₹ 41 crore on day 1, second to the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Happy New Year' which collected ₹ 44. 97 crore.

The First Indian Film To Earn ₹ 1,000 Crore

The film earned over ₹ 300 crore in its first weekend, and by May 7, it became the first-ever Indian film to collect ₹ 1000 crore. As trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted, "With ₹ 800+ Cr in India and ₹ 200+ Cr in Overseas, #Baahubali2 becomes the 1st Indian movie to do ₹ 1000 Cr @ WW BO.. 👏👏"

The Highest Grossing Indian Film Of All Time

Overall, the film grossed around ₹ 1,810.60 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in India to date, the highest-grossing Telugu film, and the highest-grossing South Indian film. And it sold over 12 crore tickets during its box office run, the highest for any film in India since 'Sholay'.

It certainly wasn't all about the box office as 'Baahubali 2' was acclaimed critically as well. The film won the Saturn Award for Best International Film and three National Film Awards: Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Special Effects, and Best Stunt Choreographer.
