Marvel Delays ‘Thunderbolts’ Movie Production Amid Writers’ Strike

The ongoing Writers Guild Association strike has put the production of Marvel's "Thunderbolts" film on hold and delayed shooting.

Due to the ongoing Writers Guild Association (WGA) strike, Marvel Studios has suspended production on the feature film "Thunderbolts". Early this month, WGA members went on strike to seek, among other things, greater pay, a higher minimum salary, more writers per show, and shorter exclusive contracts.

The filming of "Thunderbolts" was scheduled to begin in Atlanta in three weeks, according to the entertainment news source Deadline. The decision was made a few weeks after the studio was forced to halt pre-production on its Mahershala Ali-starring "Blade" film, which was scheduled to begin filming in June.

"Thunderbolts" is being directed by "Paper Towns" director Jake Schreier, with "Beef" screenwriter Lee Sung Jin working on the script from an initial draught by author Eric Pearson.

Several actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, reprise their roles in the movie.

The release date for "Thunderbolts" is set for July 26, 2024.
