Mahindra Thar and Scorpio Goes All Black: Other Dark Edition Cars You Can Buy Today

Mahindra has treated its Thar and Scorpio with an all-new black Stealth shade variant.

In recent times, giving an all-black treatment to cars has become a trend, and they are primarily addressed as dark or stealth editions by car manufacturers. The new vehicles to get the black treatment are the Thar and Scorpio from Mahindra. Visually, the two cars now radiate a much more intimidating aura, but the price tags of the cars remain unchanged, with the Mahindra Scorpion ranging between INR 13.58 lakh and INR 17.34 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Thar is sold at INR 11.25 lakh to INR 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Given that Thar and Scorpio are the latest cars to get the trending treatment, in the following paragraphs, let us look at other cars in the Indian market that have received stealth or dark editions in recent times.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors has already given the premium segment cars in the company’s portfolio an all-black treatment. The Nexon, Harrier, and Altroz are the three cars in the hatchback, subcompact, and SUV segments to flaunt the stealth black colour variant. Punch and Tigor have been left out of the line-up.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki calls the black or stealth edition the Arena Black Edition. The Indian manufacturer’s entire portfolio of cars is available in the special edition, which ranges from affordable Celerio, Alto, WagonR, and Swift to top-of-the-line models such as Ertiga and Brezza. However, sadly, the manufacturer has yet to launch an Arena Black Edition of the newly launched Jimny, the maker’s newest apple of the eye.

Hyundai

Hyundai calls its special black edition the Knight Edition. As of now, four models from the South Korean manufacturer’s line-up are available in India: the Creta, Venue, and Alcazar. It is quite strange that Hyundai is not offering the Verna, Tucson, Kona Electric, and IONIQ 5 in the Knight Edition, despite these four cars being the most premium offerings from Hyundai in the Indian market.

Volkswagen

Currently, Volkswagen only offers three models in the Indian market: the Virtus sedan, the Taigun subcompact SUV, and the Tiguan mid-sized sporty SUV. Fortunately, all three cars are offered with the special black treatment, which the German car manufacturer calls the GT Edge Treatment.

MG Motors India

British car maker MG Motors India is presently offering three models in India—the Astor, the Hector, and the Gloster. Out of these, the Astor and Gloster are being offered in a special black edition that MG calls the Black Storm Edition. Given that the Hector has recently witnessed a price slash in India, the SUV is unlikely to be launched in the black edition anytime soon.

Rolls Royce

Moving on to the supremely premium segment, luxury car maker Rolls Royce offers two of its products in black editions. Termed BLACK BADGE by the maker, the Ghost and Cullinan models are available in the special edition in India. Describing the special edition, Roll Royce said, “Black Badge is an audacious alter ego, designed with enhanced torque, power, and control.”

Apart from Rolls Royce, other luxurious car makers such as Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and others also offer a few of their cars in special black editions. If you drool over anything black, this is the perfect time to visit your nearest showroom.
