Home Remedies to Protect Your Teeth from Cavities

Use these simple remedies to fight cavities at home.

Cavities are a major oral issue that affects people of all age groups. In simple words, these are tiny holes formed on the surface of your teeth. Also known as tooth decay, the condition occurs due to several factors such as bacteria formation in the mouth, sipping sugary drinks, taking certain medications, not brushing the teeth well, and more. If not treated immediately, it can get worse with time and lead to some more uncomfortable issues. While seeing a dentist is the best option, many natural remedies may help you get rid of cavities effectively.

Oil pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient technique that helps remove the impurities from your mouth. Also, it restricts the growth of bacteria that are responsible for cavities. All you need to do is swish some sesame or coconut oil around the mouth for 15 minutes and then spit it out.

Saltwater

Saltwater is widely recognized as a powerful remedy to treat almost all of the common oral issues. It kills the mouth bacteria and removes stickiness from the teeth, both of which result in treating cavities. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt to a glass of warm water and then gargle with the mixture at least three times every day.

Sugar-free gum

Sugar-free gum contains some properties that boost the production of saliva in the mouth, thus reducing the symptoms of cavities to some extent. Also, it raises the pH of plaque and restores minerals in the teeth. All you need to do is chew some sugar-free gum every day after a meal.

Clove

Thanks to its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, clove makes an ideal remedy to treat dental cavities. It relieves toothache and also prevents the cavities from spreading further. You can use a cotton swab to apply a few drops of clove oil multiple times a day.

Neem

Neem is a traditional remedy to treat a wide range of oral issues. It removes plaque from the teeth and kills all the bacteria that cause cavities. You can either chew some neem leaves or brush your teeth with a neem stick. Do the process for 15 minutes and then rinse your mouth with cold water.

Green tea

Green tea is naturally rich in some properties (especially fluorine) that restrict the growth of bacteria in the mouth, thus preventing cavities to some extent. For best results, you can drink green tea two times every day. Otherwise, you can gargle or even use it as a mouthwash.

Baking soda

Thanks to its alkali properties, baking soda helps maintain the pH levels in the mouth. Also, it restricts the growth of bacteria that are responsible for cavities. All you need to do is brush your teeth with some baking soda at least once every day.

Apart from these, the list also includes garlic, lemon juice, licorice root, tea tree oil, etc.
