From 'Sholay' To ‘Mohra’, Check Out These 6 Iconic Two-Hero Films Before You Watch ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is the latest addition to Bollywood’s two-hero tradition that the audience cannot get enough of.

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff are set to reprise their avatars in one of the most awaited action films of this year. The two actors, known for their martial arts skills, will showcase their bromance in full fervour in Ali Abbas Zafar's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. In the recently released trailer of the film, the two actors promise gun-fights, combat sequences and several other moments of adrenaline rush.

The film seems to be a quintessential two-hero Hindi film, where the pair is usually always different by personality. So before ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ becomes the latest addition to Bollywood’s two-hero tradition, here’s looking back at 6 other classic actor-pairs so far:

Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor in ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’ (1980)

In the film, Bachchan got the flamboyant role, while Kapoor was seen in an unambiguous character. In Do Aur Do Paanch, the two were seen as rival burglars who end up chasing the same score. However, when they are tasked to kidnap a rich man’s son, they disguise themselves as his school teachers, and the comedy scenes that follow are quite interesting as they both try to flee with the boy.

Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha in ‘Kaala Patthar’ (1979)

Sinha plays a fugitive-turned-miner Mangal, who likes to be the boss, but is in turn commanded by a fellow miner, the brooding Vijay (Bachchan). In the film, both have confrontation scenes, despite being a part of the ensemble cast of Kaala Patthar. The two actors again got to play off each other in Dostana (1980).

Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff in ‘Andar Baahar’ (1984)

In several films, Jackie Shroff played the responsible elder brother to Anil Kapoor’s mischievous younger brother. But in their first film together, Shroff’s policeman and Kapoor’s thief play equals as they together chase a psychopathic villain played by Danny Denzongpa. With a common goal, the two offered slick action to the viewers.

Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994)

Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan have starred in several films together with Akshay playing the serious man while Khan is seen as the rakish fool. In the film, the two share a love-hate relationship, but eventually, they bond with each other, and beat the villains by the end.

Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in ‘Mohra’ (1994)

Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty too have featured together in several action films, including Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri (2000), and Dhadkan (2000). However, they first impressed the audience when they starred together in Rajiv Rai’s action epic Mohra. In the film, Kumar played the serious cop, Amar, who fights the crime-fighting vigilante Vishal (Shetty). Eventually, the two iron out their differences before deciding to defeat the villain, played by Naseeruddin Shah.

Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in ‘Sholay’ (1975)

Who is not fond of Jay-Veeru? Well, Bachchan’s brooding role and Dharmendra’s charming act was the highlight of this film. And what better to watch a two-hero film than to watch the iconic Sholay.
