Fardeen Khan Makes A Comeback With Heeramandi: From Bobby Deol To Sushmita Sen, Other Actors Who Made Strong OTT Comebacks

Fardeen Khan is making his return to screen after 14 years with the Netflix release Heeramandi, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The first look poster of Fardeen Khan in the series Heeramandi left everyone impressed as the series marks the actor’s comeback on screen after a gap of 14 years. Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his OTT debut, explores the cultural reality of Heeramandi, through the eyes of courtesans and their patrons and is set amid the freedom struggle of the country.

The show, which hits Netflix on May 1, also stars Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman and Taha Shah. The main ensemble cast of women who are leading the series are Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal, in key roles.

At the trailer launch event of Heeramandi, the actor expressed his gratitude towards Sanjay Leela Bhansali for giving him ‘the perfect role’ for a comeback. But not just Fardeen, a host of other actors have managed to make a strong comeback on screen with their roles on OTT. Check out a few of them:

Bobby Deol

Bobby Deol, who debuted with the 1995 film Barsaat in 1995, had a few box office duds before he took a hiatus from films. However, it was especially after Ashram, a mystery series that released post-pandemic in 2020, that caught everyone’s attention and Bobby managed to leave a mark with his role. He also starred in crime thriller series Class of '83 and Love Hostel, thereby cementing his position as a bankable star.

Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek Bachchan, who made her film debut opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in Refugee, managed to impress the audience in 2020 after he starred in Breathe: Into the Shadows, a Prime Video series. In the same year, his other movies Dasvi and Ludo released on Netflix, which made everyone get up and take notice.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen, who was seen in hits like Biwi No.1 and Main Hoon Na, made a massive U-turn in her career when she headlined Aarya, a series on Disney Hotstar +. After that, she starred in Taali on the Jio Cinema. And there’s been no looking back for the actress.

Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi’s career changed for the good after he appeared in Inside Edge in 2017, on Amazon Prime. He was later seen in Dharavi Bank, an OTT series produced by Zee Studios, co-starring Suneil Shetty. Lately, he was seen in Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force, which is headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit made a comeback on screen with the OTT series The Fame Game, a show streaming on Netflix. She also starred in the 2022 movie Maja Ma, which got her praise for playing a queer woman, who is married to a man.

Arshad Warsi

Arshad Warsi, who delivered a last hit with Dedh Ishqiya in 2014, managed to revive his career when he starred in Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side, a thriller series streaming on JioCinema. He was also seen in an episode of Modern Love: Mumbai, apart from being the narrator for the comedy series streaming on Netflix, Choona.
