A Look At ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’ Actor Pratik Gandhi Career, From Theatre Artist To Scam 1992 And A Leading Star

The actor got major acclaim after he starred as stockbroker Harshad Mehta in the 2020 Sony LIV web series Scam 1992.

Pratik Gandhi, known for his work in Gujarati theatre and Gujarati cinema, who rose to fame for his portrayal of Harshad Mehta in Sony LIV series Scam 1992 (2020). For the role, he won a Filmfare OTT Award, and went on to act in several Hindi films and series thereafter. He is currently seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar along with Vidya Balan. In the film, Kavya Ganeshan (Vidya Balan) and Anirudh Bannerjee (Pratik Gandhi) are married for 12 years. The film was released in cinema halls on April 19.

In the film, Pratik once again delights in portraying a character that’s intense yet carefree. Be it the comedy to his dialogues, or holding his ground with scenes with Vidya, he has always added depth to his characters. The film, which also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy, is helmed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta.

However, there’s a long way that Pratik has come far, and he has managed to now make a mark as a leading man in films. Albeit, do you know that he was born in Surat to parents who were teachers, and was involved in theatre arts. He even completed his Industrial Engineering, and worked at Reliance Infrastructure (cement division) in Mumbai. But fate had other plans, and he participated in the Gujarati play Aa Paar Ke Pele Paar, which changed his life. He went on to star in plays Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon, Hu Chandrakant Bakshi and Ame Badha Sathe To Duniya Laiye Mathe.

He ended up bagging a lead role in his next film, Wrong Side Raju (2016) which won the National Award for Best Gujarati Film. Pratik also starred in other Gujarati films Love Ni Bhavai (2017) and Ventilator (2018), and both of them were commercially successful.

However, it was not until he played stockbroker Harshad Mehta in the 2020 Sony LIV biographical drama web series Scam 1992, that he got national recognition. In the show, directed by Hansal Mehta, Pratik got love from all corners. The biographical financial thriller was based on the 1992 Indian stock market scam committed by many stockbrokers including Harshad Mehta. Adapted from journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu's 1992 book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away, the series was a massive success, and made Pratik catapult into a star.

The actor next featured in the 2021 Hindi film Bhavai and received mixed reviews. His next Hindi film was Atithi Bhooto Bhava, which was released in 2022. He then starred in the Gujarati film Vaahlam Jaao Ne (2022). Next up, he has Hindi film Dedh Bigha Zameen, written and directed by Pulkit.

Not just that, he is also working with Hansal Mehta yet again for a multi-season biographical web series on Mahatma Gandhi starring him in the lead. Backed by Applause Entertainment, the series is based on historian and author Ramachandra Guha’s two books — Gandhi before India and Gandhi: The Years that Changed the World.
