The Indian sporting scenario in 2025 wasn’t all about cricketers lifting trophies. Several other sports, including hockey, saw players bring laurels to the nation. When it comes to hockey, the Men in Blue lift the Asia Cup, ending an eight-year trophy drought, but, as always, the majority of Indians did not look past cricket and its glories.
As the year comes to an end, here’s a shoutout to all those hockey players who lit every game on fire with their goals.
22 goals in three matches
Indian players lit up Pool A by scoring an unbelievable 22 goals across three matches against PRC, Japan, and Kazakhstan.
In the opening match against PRC, India won 4-3. India’s defender Jugraj Singh opened the account for India with one goal, whereas captain Harmanpreet Singh, who is often considered the world’s present drag flicker, scored three goals to give India a convincing victory.
The second match saw India take on Japan, and once again, captain Harmanpreet rose to the occasion with two goals from his stick. A third goal was added by forward Mandeep Singh, who was also part of India’s bronze-winning Olympic squad on two different occasions.
In the third match, India scored 15 goals against Kazakhstan, with forward Abhishek Nain scoring three, Sukhjeet Singh adding three more, and Jugraj scoring a third hat-trick in that very game.
The remaining six goals in that game were hit by Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Rajinder Singh, Sanjay Rana, and Dilpreet Singh.
Big wins in Super Four
Even in the Super Four, India won two games by big margins, while one ended in a draw.
In the match against South Korea, India managed a draw with one goal each from midfielder Hardik Singh and forward Mandeep.
The second game against Malaysia saw India scoring four goals from the sticks of Manpreet, Sukhjeet, forward Shilanand Lakra, and midfielder Vivek Prasad.
Against the PRC in the third match, India scored six goals, two from Abhishek Nain and one each from Dilpreet, Sukhjeet, Mandeep, Lakra, and midfielder Raj Kumar Pal.
No new scorer in the final
In the final, India faced defending champion South Korea in a rematch. When it mattered the most, India scored four goals—two by Dilpreet and one each from Amit and Sukhjeet.
Across the tournament, 13 players from India scored against various teams, helping India lift the trophy. Unfortunately, most aren’t aware of their names, but now they do.
