T20 WC 2026: The Month of March and the Men in Blue With a Trophy in Hand

India’s latest trophy means the team has now won four major trophies in the month of March

India, the defending ICC T20 World Champions, have successfully defended their title against New Zealand and the 2026 T20 World Champions, making it thrice in a row. To be honest, we are not surprised because we know of a trivia that you may not be aware of.

10 March, 1985

On 10 March 1985, the Men in Blue under the captainship of Sunil Gavaskar had lifted the World Championship of Cricket trophy by defeating PAK in the final game. The tournament was perfect for India as the team did not lose a single match. In fact, India picked 10 wickets in every game of the tourney except in the final in which they picked nine wickets. Ravi Shastri was the Player of the Tournament because of which, he had received an Audi car.

6 March, 2016

Eight years ago on 6 March, India had defeated Bangladesh at Dhaka to lift the Asia Cup trophy. Batting first, the Men in Blue had stopped Bangladesh at 120 runs in a rain affected match that reduced the match length to 15 overs each for both sides. In response, India had chased the target in less than 14 overs with Shikhar Dhawan hitting 60 runs whereas Virat Kohli made 41 runs. The chase was completed by a cameo by Dhoni who finished with 20 runs in six balls.

9 March, 2025

Last year, India defeated New Zealand in another final i.e., the ICC Champions Trophy on 9 March 2025. The Black Caps had put on a target of 251 runs that was easily chased by India, courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s 76 runs and Shreyas Iyer’s 48 runs.

What happened last eve?

Last eve, India cruised past the Black Caps with big scores coming off the bat of Sanju Samson who made 89 runs followed by 52 from Abhishek Sharma and 54 runs from Ishan Kishan. Down the order, Shivam Dube once again played the perfect role of a finisher, hitting 26 runs in eight balls. The rest of the game was wrapped up by the duo of Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah who picked three and four wickets, respectively as India won the game by 96 runs.

And that’s how India now has four trophies in the month of March – a month that has favoured our Men in Blue.
