Both teams have played almost the same number of T20I matches in Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium
The Men in Blue return to the Wankhede Stadium this Thursday to host England for the semi-final of the game of the ICC T20 World Cup. For the unversed souls, this will be the third straight semi-final between India and England in the tournament’s history, with England winning the 2022 game, whereas India won the 2024 match. There’s another coincidence between the two sides – in the last two semi-finals, whoever won the game went on to become the champions – England (2022) and India (2024).
So, who will win the third semi-final at the Wankhede? It’s incredibly tough to predict, but here’s a look back at how the two teams have fared at the iconic cricket stadium in Mumbai.

The story started by Andrew Flintoff at Wankhede Stadium ended by Sourav Ganguly at Lords with memorable celebrations.#Lords #NatWestSeries #YuvrajSingh #Kaif #SouravGanguly pic.twitter.com/gEiv7Ezslb
For India, Wankhede is an incredibly special ground because in 2011, this is where India had lifted their second ICC World Cup (ODI). Not to forget, the rivalry between India and England went to a different level because of one incident at this venue, i.e., Andrew Flintoff taking off his jersey in 2002, which was answered by Sourav Ganguly at Lord’s.

In short, Wankhede is a stadium that fuels emotions in the Men in Blue, who have played seven T20I games to date and won five out of them. India’s one T20I defeat at this venue came against the West Indies in another semi-final, i.e., in the 2016 edition of the tournament.
India vs. England
#INDvsENG : The rivalry between India vs England in T20 World Cup history has delivered some of the most iconic moments, from Yuvraj’s 6 sixes in 2007 to high stakes semi final trilogy of 2022, 2024, & now 2026.

At the Wankhede, India and England have played merely two games against each other, with India winning on one occasion, whereas England secured the game in the other match. In December 2012, England triumphed over India by a margin of six wickets, while in 2025, India exacted revenge by defeating England by a significant margin of 150 runs.
England at Wankhede
The Three Lions have played six matches at the Wankhede; in addition to the two games against India, England has played two matches against the West Indies and one match each against Nepal and South Africa.

England lost both games against the West Indies but won against South Africa, so in total, England holds a record of winning three and losing three matches at the Wankhede.
Most runs and wickets
Last but not least, when it comes to scoring the most runs at the stadium from the present World Cup squads, India’s Abhishek Sharma has 135 runs, whereas England’s Jos Buttler has 120 runs. In the bowling department, England’s Adil Rashid has five wickets at the venue, but no Indian bowler from the present squad has more than three.
