Once upon a time, batters were put above bowlers in cricket, but in the present era, players from both departments are given equal importance. Therefore, when India takes the field on February 7 to defend its T20 World Cup title against the rest of the world, not only batters but also bowlers will carry the burden of winning the games for the nation.
Ahead of the tournament, let us look at Indian bowlers with the maximum T20I wickets going into the World Cup.
Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is India’s top T20I wicket taker, and he has achieved this feat in merely four years of playing T20I cricket. In four years, Singh has played 73 matches, picking 111 wickets at an economy of 8.39 and an average of 19.01 with a best figure of 4/9. In the 2024 edition, he was India’s highest wicket taker and the second highest in the tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah

In the present generation of bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah is considered one of the greatest, and rightfully so because Bumrah is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is. In 84 matches, Bumrah has picked 103 wickets while maintaining an economy of 6.42. Bumrah took 15 wickets in eight games during the most recent T20 World Cup, making him the third-highest wicket-taker in the competition.
Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is India’s star all-rounder who not only does impossible things with the bat but also with the ball. Being an all-rounder, he is the third-highest T20I wicket taker for India, having played 125 games, which is also the maximum for an Indian player in the format. In 125 games, Pandya has grabbed 102 wickets so far with a best figure of 4/16 and an economy of 8.30. The way Hardik Pandya is going, he has the chance to overtake Singh.
Kuldeep Yadav

India’s famous Chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav, is the fourth-highest T20I wicket taker in the squad going into the World Cup, and overall, for India, he stands at fifth. So far in his T20I career, Yadav has played 50 matches, and he has picked up 90 wickets at an average of 13.17 while maintaining a best figure of 5/17. Last year, Yadav dominated the Asia Cup with 17 wickets at an average of 9.29 and a best of 4/7.
Axar Patel

Axar Patel is the seventh-highest wicket-taker for India in the T20I format. He goes into the World Cup as the team’s vice captain and fifth-highest wicket-taker in the present squad. Patel has played 86 T20I games for India, picking up 83 wickets at an economy of 7.31.
These bowlers will need to perform at their highest level in the upcoming World Cup to help India win the trophy and defend their title.
