'Laapataa Ladies' Trivia; Did You Know It Was Aamir Khan, And Not Kiran Rao, Who Discovered The Film's Script?

Khan found the script of ‘Laapataa Ladies', written by Biplab Goswami, at a script writing contest.

"... And I was hooked. I knew that this was not just a great story but also a great opportunity for me," recalled Kiran Rao in one of her recent interviews.

It is Kiran Rao's comeback as a director after 14 long years. What's more, it's another collaboration between Rao and Aamir Khan; something that promises an extraordinary cinematic experience (well, if you have seen 'Dhobi Ghat', you would know). And based on the trailer, it seems like 'Laapataa Ladies' is going to be an absolute blast, taking us on a fun ride like no other.

"The challenge lay in addressing societal issues subtly, through comedy. We aimed to avoid overt lecturing, allowing the audience to grasp the underlying message organically. Comedy served as a vehicle for conveying our thoughts effortlessly," said Rao about the film.

'Laapata Ladies' is all set to hit theatres on March 1, and anticipations are currently at their peak. As we gear up for the film, let's share an interesting fact about it that you didn't know.

Aamir Khan Discovered The Script Of 'Laapata Ladies', Not Kiran Rao

Yes, you read it right! Aamir Khan, who is quite well-known for his eye for interesting and out-of-the-box scripts, discovered the script of 'Laapata Ladies' at the Cinestan Script Writing Competition.

The captivating script, written by Biplab Goswami, secured the second position in the competition. Recognizing its potential, Khan urged Kiran Rao to helm the project, and the rest is history!

As Rao shared in an interview, "It was Aamir (Khan) who found the script. I had been trying to write for quite some time. I have a lot of scripts that I’ve developed but this was a story that Aamir was given as part of a script writing competition. It was submitted by a writer called Biplab Goswami and Aamir loved the story. He shared it with me and I absolutely loved it. I felt the story had a potential to touch upon a lot of issues, but also be highly entertaining at the same time."

Notably, in that same interview, the director spoke about the themes that she had tried to explore in the film, saying, "There are multiple themes. We tried to layer them below the actual plot.  But they are to do with women’s empowerment and education, sisterhood and masculinity. It doesn’t end at women’s empowerment, but in some way speaks about everybody’s need to find space for themselves, discover their own talent, and chase their own dreams."

An Additional Piece Of Information: Aamir Khan Was Keen On Playing A Major Role

It's quite interesting that Aamir Khan, who is a co-producer of 'Laapata Ladies', was interested in playing the role of Manohar in the film, which was eventually played by Ravi Kishan. He even auditioned for the role, however, was 'rejected' by Rao.

As Rao shared, "Aamir and I had a huge discussion about whether he should play Manohar's character, which was played by Ravi Kishan. Aamir said, 'I really love the character, I really want to play it."

"Aamir actually did a look test with hair and makeup for the part. He actually auditioned for the role, and Aamir being Aamir was really good at it," she added.
