KKR & Rain: Did You Know the Knights Have Been Involved in Maximum Washed-out IPL Matches?

On the evening of April 6, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 saw the first match of the season washed out by rain. Surprisingly, the match involved KKR, a team that has been involved in such a washed-out situation on nine different occasions since 2008. Compared to KKR, no other IPL team has experienced a washed-out situation more than four times.

KKR vs. DD, 2008

On May 28, 2008, the first-ever IPL match to be abandoned due to rain was between KKR and the Delhi Daredevils (DD). Played in New Delhi, not a single ball was bowled, and after two hours of waiting, the game was called off at 10:00 p.m., handing over one point each to the two sides.

KKR vs. CSK, 2009

In 2009, a game between KKR and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Cape Town was abandoned due to rain. In this game, too, not a single ball was bowled. From 4:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m., the umpires stayed around, hoping the rain would stop, but it continued, and they ultimately decided to call off the game.

KKR vs. DC, 2012

In the year KKR lifted its first IPL trophy, the rain washed out one of its games against the Deccan Chargers (DC) at Eden Gardens. At that juncture, DC were winless after six games, whereas KKR were second on the table.

KKR vs. RR, 2015

In 2015, another KKR match was washed out without a single ball being bowled. The rain had stopped, but due to waterlogging in the outfield of the Eden Gardens, the game could not begin.

KKR vs. RR & GT, 2024

In 2024, two of KKR’s games got washed away due to rain. One game in Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans (GT) was abandoned, while another in Guwahati against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) was abandoned.

KKR vs. RCB & PBKS

Last season, one match between KKR and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) got washed away, which shattered KKR’s chances of making it to the playoffs. Before the RCB match, the 44th match of the IPL between KKR and PBKS also got abandoned due to rain.

Apart from KKR, only PBKS and RR come close, having been involved in four rain-abandoned matches.
