From potential of artificial intelligence to possibility of life on Mars, Elon Musk predicted about humanity’s future in VivaTech 2024 Paris event.
VivaTech is a celebration of science and advanced technologies in Paris. Every year, VivaTech brings “the greatest business leaders, startups, investors, researchers and innovators to ignite positive change in business and for society,” according to the website. During this event, billionaire Elon Musk predicted the future of humanity amidst the rise of artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk talked about life on Mars and said, “I think we will have the first people on Mars probably within 10 years, maybe seven to eight. SpaceX’s long-term goal is to make life multi-planetary. We need to become a sustainable multi-planet civilisation. This is the first time in the history of the Earth when it is possible to do so. That capability might be only open for the short term.”
The Space X CEO stated that “biggest hope is Mars”.
Emphasizing on importance of expanding human footprint over other planets, Musk mentioned: “We need to become a sustainable multi-planet civilisation. This is the first time in the history of the Earth when it is possible to do so. That capability might be only open for the short term.”
Meanwhile, NASA signed a $3 billion deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX to use its new spacecraft to return humans to the Moon with its Artemis astronauts. All those efforts were made to combat population explosion and climate change.
Elon Musk predicted about the future of jobs amidst the rise of artificial intelligence. He said, “In a benign scenario, probably none of us will have a job.”
He added, “Overall I’m happy with how things turned out – I probably wouldn’t do anything. You don’t know if it comes out with a worse outcome. I’d be curious to see a younger me, but I’d probably stay invisible and not say anything.”
“If you want to do a job that's kinda like a hobby, you can do a job. But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want,” he added.
Criticising OpenAI and Google’s Gemini the billionaire said, “It's important that AI is trained to be truthful and not to be politically correct. Political correctness is often simply not true, and that means you're programming AI to lie, and I think that will backfire very badly. Honesty is the best policy.”
During this event, China’s one of the biggest tech firms, Baidu’s CEO Robin Li promised to bring artificial intelligence which is more smarter than humans in upcoming decade. However, Elon Musk predicted: “it will emerge very soon.”
The Neuralink founder issued a chilling warning to parents by emphasizing the harmful side-effects of technology on children.
“I do worry kids these days are trained by social media, which are dopamine maximisers. I’d urge parents to limit social media to children because they are being programmed,” Musk mentioned.
The Tesla CEO joked about being an alien during the conversation. When asked about rumors of his “extraterrestrial origins”, he laughed and said, “I am an alien. Yeah, I keep saying I'm an alien, but nobody believes me.”
Undoubtedly, there are fear and controversies, but efficiency and acceptability of AI have also increased. Imagine how human civilization will look like if all those predictions come true?
