After all, the tournament has never been about winning the trophy alone. Let us begin with the big fish, i.e., the IPL title. Since 2008, two teams have dominated the tournament, each lifting the title five times. The teams in question are the Mumbai Indians (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) and the Chennai Super Kings (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023). The closest to these two giants is Kolkata Knight Riders, which won three titles in 2012, 2014, and 2024.

The Mumbai Indians also hold the record for the most matches won, with 151 victories since 2008. The Indians' winning percentage stands at 54.32%, but the Gujarat Titans, with 37 victories out of 60 matches, have a 61.67% winning percentage.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru not only gave too many runs to Hyderabad, but in another match, they could not score runs with the bat and went all out below 50. In a game against the Knight Riders, Bengaluru earned the embarrassing record of scoring the lowest total, i.e., 49 runs. The team was chasing a target of 132 runs.

In 2024 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Knight Riders posted a lofty target of 264 runs against the Punjab Kings. However, the Kings scripted history by chasing down the target, recording the highest successful chase in IPLβs history.

Punjab Kings also hold the record for defending the lowest total in IPL history. In a game versus the Knights, the Kings were halted at 111 runs only by the Kolkata bowling department. However, Punjabβs bowlers did an even better job by not allowing Kolkata to reach the 111 runs.
Biggest wins by runs and balls
When it comes to winning by massive margins, the Mumbai Indians hold the record for winning a game by 146 runs versus the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Last but not least, the Mumbai Indians also hold the record for winning a game by the maximum number of balls, i.e., 87 balls versus the Knight Riders.
