The Mollywood star turns 43 this October

The Malayalam film industry has produced several fine actors, and one of them is Prithviraj Sukumaran, the actor who turns 43 this October. Sukumaran is known for his versatility with films genres ranging from romance to action. However, in Sukumaran’s filmography, the genre that has impressed us the most is his plethora of thrillers.

To celebrate the actor’s 43rd birthday, we have listed five of Sukumaran’s thriller movies.

Available on JioHotstar, Mumbai Police is a psychological thriller that revolves around an ACP Anthony, who is the only person with information about the m*rder of ACP Aaryan. However, ACP Anthony, following an accident, develops amnesia, which, when investigating the murder, becomes a hurdle. As Sukumaran reconstructs the past, dark secrets and a shocking climax take centre stage.

Memories

We are all aware of the phrase ‘Do Not Judge a Book by its Cover’. Memories is one such movie because, from the title, it is hard to explain why a movie that involves the investigation of serial ki*lings is named Memories. Sukumaran plays the role of an officer who suffers from alc*holism and gets close to the k*ller, leading him to unexpected things.

Ezra

Sukumaran also tried his hand at the supernatural horror thriller Ezra. The movie revolves around the Dybbuk box that Sukumaran’s wife picks up from an antique shop. The film revolves around the paranormal activities that occur in Sukumaran’s family after his wife opens the box. The film was inspired by Hollywood’s The Possession, and a Hindi remake was made in 2021, titled Dybbuk. Ezra is available on JioHotstar.

Kuruthi

A socio-political thriller, Kuruthi revolves around the lives of two families that clash over the fate of a young boy. From blind faith to c*mmunal h*tred, Kuruthi touches sensitive topics that we often spot in our society. Sukumaran's production of Kuruthi, which must have been a challenging financial decision, makes it one of his finest works. After all, in today’s era, releasing such content in itself is a major challenge that not only brings the wrath of some people but also of political parties.

Cold Case

Another movie where investigative thriller has been mixed with horror, the plot of the film makes Sukumaran an IPS officer who is assigned to investigate the d*ath of woman who was m*rdered 30 years ago. From this point on, the film gradually introduces horror elements, leaving the audience with regular chills. Even though the film received numerous negative reviews, it is still worth watching if you are into thrillers.

The birthday boy will next appear in Operation Cambodia, a sequel to the 2021 film Operation Java, and I, Nobody.
