Google announced Universal AI Agent “Project Astra” in Google I/O 2024.

At Google’s I/O developer conference, Demis Hassabis, the executive leading the Google's effort to reestablish leadership in AI, launched the “next-generation AI assistant” Project Astra. It also showcased some glimpses of how future assistants could act like fully-fledged assistants to help anyone understand about surroundings in real time.

A part of Google’s DeepMind venture, Astra Project released videoclip. “It was running as an app on a smartphone and also a prototype pair of smart glasses,” as mentioned by news agencies.
In response to spoken commands, Astra accurately sensed the surroundings through the devices’ cameras. Furthermore, it recognised items like computer speaker and mentioned its components correctly.
Google and OpenAI are revolutionizing a new era in generative AI. Equipped with “multimodal” capabilities, this model can be trained image, audio, video and text. Interestingly, the model can “natively ingest, remix, and generate data in all those formats,” as mentioned by Google spokesperson.
Google’s DeepMind leading executive Demis Hassabis said, “To be truly useful, an agent needs to understand and respond to the complex and dynamic world just like people do — and take in and remember what it sees and hears to understand context and take action. It also needs to be proactive, teachable and personal, so users can talk to it naturally and without lag or delay”
