Trivia: Did You Know THIS 10-Year-Old Predicted the Tsunami of 2004?

No one believed her prediction, but moments later, her prediction became the reality

The 2004 Tsunami was one of the worst natural disasters humankind has ever witnessed. Countless lives lost and damages worth millions left several countries in shock, especially Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India.

Unfortunately, marine geologists could not predict the incident because, two decades ago, humankind did not have the technology to monitor the activities under the ocean bed.

However, one person predicted the tsunami—a 10-year-old girl who was on vacation in Thailand with her family.

Smith

Tilly Smith, now 31, is a British woman who was a 10-year-old kid on vacation with her family in Thailand in 2004.

Tilly’s prediction

Tilly had predicted the tsunami well before it hit Thailand.

How?

Tilly noticed that water was coming in but not going out. There was also white froth on the surface of the ocean water.

Tilly’s own statement

Tilly explained how, only two weeks before the vacation, her teacher had taught about tsunamis in school.

Tilly said, “I had watched the video at school. My geography teacher Mr. Karney at Danes Hill School, Oxshatt, Surrey, had put it on. I was in year six. He brought a tray into the class and there was a three-storey house made out of polystyrene and we would shake it and see that it fell down. We had a discussion on earthquakes and the sea, and an earthquake in the sea creates a tsunami. It was two weeks before we went on holiday.”

Spread information

Initially, when Tilly informed her parents, they didn’t believe her. But when the water entered their hotel, they realised Tilly’s prediction was right. They quickly spread the word, and several families managed to reach a safe zone in time.

Vacation every year

Since 2004, Tilly has visited Thailand every year, and the incident left a lasting impression on her and changed her life.
