Suryakumar Yadav has gained his form back at the correct hour and is expected to rock the tournament with his 360-degree unorthodox batting
The Indian cricket team's T20I side boasts a multitude of talented players, with their captain, Suryakumar Yadav, standing out among the best. After months of struggling, Yadav found his form back in the T20I series versus New Zealand, and therefore, expectations are now higher for him to deliver and defend the World Cup title as India goes into the tournament as the defending champions.
Ahead of the tournament, let us look at Yadav’s T20I career, ranging from domestic to international.

Having made his debut in 2012, IPL is the platform that helped Yadav become the “Indian 360”, a player known for sending balls to every corner of the stadium. In 214 IPL matches played so far, Yadav has scored 6,462 runs at an average of 41.69 while maintaining a strike rate of 154.56. He also has the highest score of 103 runs in the tournament, scored against the Gujarat Titans in merely 49 balls in 2023.
On the international front

On the international front, Yadav has appeared in 103 matches for India, having scored 2,967 runs at an average of 36.62 and a strike rate of 164.74. In T20 internationals, Yadav has scored four centuries and 23 fifties, with a high score of 117 runs against England in Nottingham. Not to forget, SKY is India’s third-highest T20I run scorer of all time.
Asia Cup disaster
Despite Suryakumar’s batting prowess in T20 internationals, Yadav had a disastrous run in the Asia Cup 2025, which was played in a T20 format. In seven matches, Yadav scored only 72 runs at an average of 18, with his highest score was only 47 runs.
Runs in the 2024 editions

Yadav’s 2024 T20 World Cup wasn’t fruitful either. In eight games, Yadav had scored only 199 runs at an average of 28.42, and his innings worth noting in that edition was 53 runs. Even in terms of strike rate, Yadav struggled to hit the ball at a fast pace, managing a meagre 135.37.
The best scores in T20I
Moving on to Yadav’s best on the T20 international stage, his 117 runs versus England at Trent Bridge stands at the top, followed by 111 runs versus New Zealand in 2022. In 2023, Yadav scored another T20 century at home, i.e., 112 runs versus Sri Lanka in Rajkot. SKY also scored a century against South Africa Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, in 2023.
SKY’s recent form
Recently, SKY regained his T20I form against New Zealand, scoring 32 in the first game, followed by 82 runs in the second game and 57 in the third match. In the fourth game, as Suryakumar succumbed to eight runs, India also lost the game, but the Men in Blue have won the series in a convincing manner ahead of the tournament.
There’s no doubt that SKY’s statistics in T20 are phenomenal, but he also witnessed a lean phase last year. Fortunately, he has gained his form back at the correct hour and is expected to rock the tournament with his 360-degree unorthodox batting.
