'Spy' Pigeon With Devices Attached to Its Limb Caught in Odisha

Odisha authorities captured a suspected espionage pigeon. The pigeon was discovered by some fishermen on their trawler a few days ago, according to the authorities.

Spy Pigeon is Found

A pigeon suspected of being a spy captured in Odisha A pigeon with what appeared to be a camera and a microchip attached to its leg was seized from a fishing boat off the coast of Paradip in the Jagatsinghpur region of Odisha on Wednesday. "Our veterinarians will examine the bird. We will seek help from the State Forensic Science Laboratory for examining the devices attached to its legs. It appears that the devices are a camera and a microchip," Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Rahul PR told PTI.

A few days ago, some fishermen discovered the pigeon perched on their trawler, according to the authorities. The marine police have been informed that the bird has been captured.

According to reports, the bird's wings also bore writing on an unidentified tongue. The authorities believe the bird was being used as a snoop.

Official Statement by the Authorities

“We will produce the pigeon with all the material before a cyber expert to find out the truth," Paradip ASP, Nimai Charan Sethi told news agency ANI.

Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Rahul PR said that they will also “seek the help of the State Forensic Science Laboratory for examining the devices attached to its legs," reported PTI. “Experts’ help will also be sought to find out what is written," he added.

An employee of the fishing trawler "Sarathi," Pitambar Behera, claimed to have observed the pigeon sitting on the vessel.

"Suddenly I noticed that some instruments were attached to the bird's legs. I also found that something is written on its wings. I could not understand it as it was not in Odia," Behera said.

As the bird drew nearer, he caught it.

The pigeon was discovered on the trawler about 10 days ago, when it was anchored 35 kilometres off the shore of Konark.

Behera claimed to have been feeding the birds broken rice for a few days.
