She is an artist true to her craft and doesn’t leave a stone unturned
She might not have been on the forefront in her debut film Dangal in 2016, but actress Sanya Malhotra over the years has proved her mettle. Malhotra has become one of the most sought-after actresses in a career just spanning four years. The actress is a complete package, not only is she a trained dancer in contemporary and ballet but she is capable of molding herself into any given emotion or character.
Her journey onto Bollywood began after participating in the dance reality show Dance India Dance where she made it to the top 100. However, it was only after appearing in auditions and assisting camerapersons for television commercials, that she was contacted by casting director Mukesh Chhabra. So here is a list of few films of this powerhouse performer that we should not miss.
A young woman living with a sole ambition to keep getting in the way of her sister, played by Radhika Madan, Malhotra outdid herself in this arrogant high pitched role. The film is set in rural Rajasthan the actress imbibed the accent and mannerisms to perfection. This character of Malhotra came as a surprise, for its real quirkiness which was easily able to hold the audience’s attention.
Thoughthis was AyushmannKhurrana, Neena Gupta, and Gajraj Rao starrer film that showed a story of a middle-aged pregnancy, but the film saw Malhotra in her another best. As a supportive girlfriend, the actress stood out in her role and at the same time looked ravishing, even her dance number MorniBanke was excellent.
This story and Malhotra’s character are both unique and executed to the finest level. The story follows a street photographer played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui who meets a shy stranger played by Malhotra and ends up pretending to be a couple but fall for each other. The special thing about this film is that it shows the actress in her most effortlessly portrays of the character. By being that young girl full of dreams but succumbed under family pressure, she spoke to so many. And despite being in the same space as Nawaz, Malhotra stood her ground giving a sincere performance to date.
In the film based on the life of the Maths genius Shakuntala Devi, played by VidyaBalan, Malhotra is seen playing the protagonist’s daughter Anupama Banerji. With a change in her hairstyle, the actress even here stood out in her role.
Though again she was in a film surrounded by a mega-star cast, Malhotra in this yet another quirky unabashed role proved that she is a true ‘bindass’. Even in this comical role, the actress did full justice to her character and the traits.
