Ranveer Singh to Jim Sarbh: How Bollywood’s Style Icons Are Redefining Gender-Fluid Fashion

B-town actors like Ranveer Singh, Jim Sarbh, Vijay Varma, among others have fearlessly embraced fashion choices that defy stereotypes.

Bollywood's most rebellious style icons are sincerely redefining fashion rules without uttering a single word. From Ranveer Singh’s playful skirts to Jim Sarbh’s pastel drapes, these style mavericks love to colour outside the lines. Their  Red carpet moments - be it editorials or street posts - smoothly champion fluid self-expression and calmly challenge stereotypes.

Want to know how these modern dandies are rewriting the fashion playbook with androgynous style statements? Read below.

Ranveer Singh

Think who dresses up eccentric in Bollywood? We bet the first name that comes to your mind is Ranveer Singh. Right? At the poster launch event of the biographical-sports drama film 83, the fashion chameleon chose to play with an unconventional style by decking up head-to-toe in Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s gender-neutral polka dot blouse and high-waist multicoloured breathy pants ensemble. He accessorized with a polka dot cap with a long trail that further added to the enigma. His sleek loafers from the shelves of Christian Louboutin’s eponymous label, in collaboration with Sabyasachi, completed the Padmavat actor’s retro avatar for the day. Styled by Nitasha Gaurav, this look by Ranveer Singh is anything but ordinary.

Vijay Verma

Vijay sure does enjoy breaking the shackles of gender stereotypes. In a photoshoot for designer Rimzim Dadu’s signature “metallic saree” campaign, the Mirzapur actor channeled pure gender-neutral flair in a striking black tuxedo shirt - tailored to perfectly fit his frame, and the label’s sculpted red-lamé pallu draped in the style of a saree. He went for an electric blue crop of hair (dyed by Vaibhav Lokhande) to beautifully contrast the liquid sheen of the fabric, while the all-black derbies anchored the look. He was styled by celebrity stylist Shroff Adajania who praised the Darlings actor for his “versatility.” An avant-garde concept, this fusion and gender neutral saree look sported by Vijay directs a bold statement and seamless self-expression.

Ayushmann Khurrana

Posing for GQ magazine cover, Ayushmann Khurrana decided to smash the fashion stereotype on how a man should look and dress with a striking appearance. He underlined his eyes with jet-black kohl, and flaunted a shiny-black nailpaint. He captioned the picture “gender-fluid.” Although many netizens criticised him for the caption - calling him out for not understanding the concept of “gender-fluidity” and simply mentioning it under a picture which isn't even nearly “gender fluid” - this look sported by the Shubh Mangal Saavdhan actor boasted confidence, and exhibited his admiration for androgynous fashion.

Jim Sarbh

Jim Sarbh is known for his quirky and off-beat social media posts - be it him getting dressed for a fashion event, or just those casual snapshots and artworks that he shares on his profile - the Neerja actor channels a character which thrives in eccentricity. For a BazaarIndia shoot, Jim is seen in a floor-length, black anarkali-style silhouette. The outfit features a high collar, full sleeves, and a slightly cinched waist, merging traditional South Asian flair with modern tailoring. Jim’s styling here is  extremely minimal - no jewelry, clean-textured hair, and subtle makeup - letting the fusion of structure and drape speak volumes. The result is a quiet yet bold defiance of male dress codes, showing how menswear can flow and frame in unexpected ways.

Babil Khan

Son of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan, Babil Khan has on several occasions displayed his love for androgynous fashion. The Qala actor tapped into mythical symbolism with his “Simurgh” look - a resplendent fusion of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s signature embroidery and the sharper cuts of Mard by Abu Jani. He donned a floor-length, dove-grey organza kurta by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla featuring an asymmetrical hem and cascading mirror-work that evoked the Simurgh’s coruscating feathers. He paired the kurta with slim, high-waist trousers from Mard by Abu Jani in matching grey silk - tailored to hit just above the ankle. A sleek, embellished belt was cinched at his waist - lending structure to the fluid drape. He accessorized with a single oxidized-silver cuff and matte black leather sandals. Through this fusionist look, Babil quietly reinvented what “men’s” fashion could be - tasteful, boundless, and wholly one's own.

A Times of India index lists Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann, Vijay, Jim, Babil among the key voices in Bollywood's unorthodox and curious wave of fashion. This crew isn't screaming out any agenda - they're peacefully living it. These aren't mere fashion choices - but a significant cultural flip. As these stars enthusiastically champion androgynous fashion, the message comes out loud and clear - Clothes don’t carry gender. They carry identity. So, discover your personal flair and wear them with confidence. Happy styling!
