Das is well-known for bringing an American style of comedy to various topics rooted in contemporary Indian culture.
Vir Das is an immensely talented comedian who has time and again made India proud on the global map. He is, without an iota of doubt, the most popular English-speaking standup comedian in India. He has a quirky sense of humor and likes to address various socio-political issues through his comedy.
Das is one of the first people to have made standup comedy popular in India. Besides, he is a skilled actor as well, having starred in films like 'Badmaash Company', 'Go Goa Gone', 'Delhi Belly', etc.
Das turns 44 today. On this occasion, we'll share an interesting fact about him that not many know.
A few years ago, Vir Das was honored with a doctorate (by Knox College in Galesburg) for his extraordinary contribution to the world of performing arts.
Notably, Das is an alumnus of Knox College.
Speaking about receiving the doctorate, Das said in an interview, "Vir Das in an interview said “Knox was this wonderful place that catered to kids like me who couldn’t otherwise afford to study in the US. They had an amazing faculty that made me love performing. They took an economics student and turned him into an actor and comedian. I’m not sure I’m even remotely deserving of this honor."
"They’ve had speakers like Obama and Clinton and I’m not sure what comparative wisdom I’m going to have to offer. But I’m going to work hard to let the students know that there is a world of choices available to them if they just step out of their box. That’s what Knox did for me. It’s a cool full-circle moment in life. And an honorary doctorate is fun. My wife is already calling me ‘Honorary Dr. Das'," he added.
