On This Day - The Undertaker Birthday: All You Need To Know About The American Professional Wrestler

The Undertaker is one of WWE's most high-profile and long-lasting characters.

American retired professional wrestler Mark William Calaway, who is well known by the ring name The Undertaker, is certainly one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He was born in Houston, Texas, on March 24, 1965, to Frank Compton Calaway (died July 2003) and Betty Catherine Truby.

Having spent most part of his career wrestling for WWF/E, The Undertaker is best known for his famous "Deadman" Undertaker gimmick, for which he was even inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.

But do you know that he started off his career in 1987 and worked under various gimmicks for World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) apart from being part of other affiliate promotions. Eventually, he was signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1989, but ended up joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, turned WWE) in 1990.

Once he joined the WWF, he was rebranded as "The Undertaker" and there was no looking back for him. His macabre "Deadman" persona got him significant mainstream popularity apart from critical acclaim. He even was honoured with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter award for Best Gimmick, 5 years in a row. He is also the longest-tenured wrestler in WWF history at 30 years.

Interestingly, it was in 2000 that Calaway expanded on The Undertaker, and came out with a gimmick of a human side, biker identity, which was dubbed "The American Badass". However, he resurrected Deadman Undertaker in 2004, with elements of American Badass Undertaker remaining.

To say the least, The Undertaker was always the focal point of WWE's flagship annual event, WrestleMania, and witnessed a series of 21 straight victories. He even paired often with his half-brother Kane, and they used to team up as the Brothers of Destruction from 1997 through 2020.

We wish ‘The Undertaker’ a very happy birthday!
