Love stories often begin unexpectedly, and the romance between Athiya Shetty and Rahul is no exception.

Born on April 18, 1992, in the vibrant city of Bangalore, Karnataka, Kannanur Lokesh Rahul was destined for greatness from the start. In 2014, Rahul debuted internationally against Australia in the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne. One of Rahul's most remarkable feats came when he became the first and only Indian cricketer to score a century on his ODI debut, setting a new standard of excellence in the cricketing world.

Despite the highs of his cricketing career, Rahul has faced his fair share of controversies, reminding us that even heroes have their trials and tribulations. Throughout his career, Rahul's calm demeanour and unwavering dedication to the sport have earned him admiration and respect from fans worldwide.

As we celebrate Rahul's birthday today, let's reflect on the remarkable journey of this Bangalore boy who has become who has become a cricketing sensation.

Suspension from BCCI

Hardik Pandya and Rahul faced significant backlash after making indecent comments during an episode of the popular TV show Koffee With Karan in 2019. They were subsequently removed from the Indian cricket team for the ongoing series against Australia and the upcoming tour to New Zealand. Legendary cricketers such as Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh criticised Pandya and Rahul for their comments.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) suspended Pandya and Rahul until further investigation. Both players apologised unconditionally and returned home from the Australia tour. After their suspension, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya missed four matches before coming back against New Zealand.

Picture with a beer pint stirred controversy

During the 2016 Caribbean test series, Rahul's casual social media post, holding a beer pint with teammates, stirred minor controversy. The Indian Cricket Board expressed concerns over maintaining a positive image, especially for young fans, and urged caution regarding social media posts. Responding promptly, Rahul removed the picture, recognising the responsibility of being a role model.

'Not ready' controversy

In the third ODI between India and Windies in Cuttack and a previous match against New Zealand in 2020, KL Rahul controversially manipulated the on-field umpire into calling a dead ball. Pulling out at the last second, despite appearing ready to face the delivery, Rahul sparked debate among commentators and raised concerns about sportsmanship and fair play in cricket.

Love story

Love stories often begin unexpectedly, and the romance between Athiya Shetty and Rahul is no exception. It all started when they crossed paths through a mutual friend back in February 2019. Despite their celebrity status, they managed to keep their budding relationship under wraps, choosing to cherish their connection in private.

However, it wasn't until December 2019 that they made their first public appearance together on Instagram, sharing heartwarming New Year moments from their getaway in Thailand.

Their love story reached new heights when they tied the knot in 2023. Rahul's return to top cricket form, highlighted by his stellar performance in the Men's ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, only adds to the joy of their shared journey, proving that love truly conquers all.

Rahul currently leads the Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) team in the IPL 2024 edition. We wish him all the best in his cricketing career and hope he continues to excel and achieve even more runs.
