The 19-year-old Swiss rider passed away after crashing during a qualifier round of the Italian GP held at Mugello
The entire world of MotoGP is grieving the death of 19-year-old Swiss rider Jason Dupasquier. During a qualifier round of the Italian GP held at Mugello, the youngster was involved in a multi-rider accident. Immediately, the race was red-flagged, and the rider was offered medical support on the spot. After analysing the gravity of the mishap, the rider was promptly taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
As per the physicians attending Dupasquier at the Careggi hospital in Florence, the rider sustained brain injuries that were “incompatible with life.” The official Twitter account of MotoGP wrote: We’re deeply saddened to report the loss of Jason Dupasquier. On behalf of the entire MotoGP family, we send our love to his team, his family and loved ones You will be sorely missed, Jason. Ride in peace.
Son of Motocross racer Philippe Dupasquier, Jason began racing at the age 11 and obtained multiple trophies in his home country of Switzerland. In 2016, he began to participate in circuit racing and in 2019, Dupasquier made a debut at the Red Bull Rookies Cup. Seeing his potential, Team Prüstel GP signed him for three years. In 2020, the young fellow made his debut in Moto3. However, his first season was not an exceptional one as Dupasquier finished the season with zero points.
This season was different for Jason Dupasquier as before the accident, he was maintaining the 12th position with a total point of 27. After the news of his death arrived, Team Prüstel GP announced that their second rider will not take part in the race of Mugello.
On the official website, the team posted a note which recited: Yesterday the most brutal side of our beloved sport hit us and it is hard for us to write down the pain we are feeling right now. Our world stopped when the Swiss rider Jason Dupasquier couldn’t win the toughest battle of his life after suffering a crash in Q2 during the Italian Grand Prix at the Circuit of Mugello (Italy). The injuries were so severe and we mourn the loss of a young rider, but first of all, a great person. Our sincere condolences are for Jason’s family and friends.
