After hitting his century at the Lord’s, KL Rahul was inducted into the Lord’s Honour Board
During India’s third game against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, opener KL Rahul struck a glorious century that got his name inducted in the Lord’s Honour Board. This wasn’t his first century at the Lord’s, as he also scored one in 2021, making him the first Indian in nearly three decades to have scored one or more Test centuries at the Mecca of cricket.
The series has proved to be a fruitful campaign for KL Rahul, who has silenced his critics in style. Apart from his centuries, Rahul has already shattered and created three records. Not to forget, there are three more records that Rahul could break if he continues his sublime form.
With his 100 at Lord’s in the third Test match of the series, KL Rahul has now become the Indian opener with the maximum number of Test centuries in England. So far, he has scored four centuries as an opener in England, surpassing the likes of Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay.
As an opener, KL Rahul has two Test centuries at Lord’s. This record puts him above Vinoo Mankad and Ravi Shastri, who had one century each as Indian openers at the Lord’s. Rahul’s first century at the Lord’s was in 2021, when he had hit 129 runs.
The Karnataka batter has also risen in the rankings of Indian openers who have scored the most Test runs in SENA countries. As of now, he sits second with 1,608 runs, only behind Sunil Gavaskar, who had ended his career with 2,464 runs in SENA countries.
In the history of Test, when it comes to centuries in England by away openers, only three players—Alan Melville, Arthur Morris, and Gordon Greenidge—have three centuries each. With two centuries already scored, KL has the opportunity to join the likes of the players mentioned above and even surpass them if he hits two more in the remaining games.
KL also has the opportunity to hit the maximum number of runs by an Indian opener in a Test series in England. After the third match, KL has 336 runs, and he is in contention to beat the likes of Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and Murali Vijay. However, if he wishes to go to the top, he will have to score 207 runs to beat Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 542 runs set in 1979.
With four centuries each, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant sit together, equalling the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar. Both KL Rahul and Pant have the opportunity to beat Rahul Dravid’s record, who sits at the top with six centuries scored between 1996 and 2011 in 13 matches.
