In the history of the IPL at the Chepauk Stadium, there have been some remarkable instances where teams have struggled to put up significant totals. Let's look at some of the lowest totals recorded at this iconic venue.

CSK celebrated with Harbhajan Singh after he claimed figures of 3/20

70 runs, CSK vs. RCB, 2019

The clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and CSK on March 23, 2019, etched a unique record in IPL history with the lowest total witnessed at the iconic Chepauk Stadium. In this low-scoring encounter, RCB struggled against CSK's bowling attack, managing 70 runs before being bundled out in 17.1 overs.

The CSK bowlers, led by Harbhajan Singh's stellar performance of 3 wickets for 20 runs, kept the RCB batters in check throughout the innings. CSK comfortably reached the target, securing a victory with seven wickets remaining and 14 unused balls. While CSK lost a few early wickets, contributions from Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, and Kedar Jadhav ensured they reached the target without much trouble.

95 runs, CSK vs. KXIP, 2015

In 2015, CSK delivered a dominating performance against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), resulting in a resounding victory. Batting first, CSK posted an imposing total of 192/3. Dwayne Smith provided a brisk start with 26 runs off 13 deliveries, laying the foundation for a formidable total. The highlight of the innings was Brendon McCullum's explosive knock of 66 runs off 44 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes. KXIP struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Murali Vijay scored 34 runs, but the team failed to capitalise on the start. Ravindra Jadeja claimed three crucial wickets, supported by Ashish Nehra and Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked up two each. KXIP could only score 95/9 in their 20 overs, falling short by a massive margin of 97 runs.

99 runs, CSK vs. DC, 2019

In an exciting clash between CSK and Delhi Capitals (DC), CSK dominated, winning by a massive 80-run margin at Chennai's M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. CSK's innings were spectacular, led by Faf du Plessis' 39, Suresh Raina's aggressive 59, and MS Dhoni's unbeaten 44, guiding them to a formidable total of 179/4.

DC struggled in response, posting only 99 runs. With Prithvi Shaw's early dismissal and despite Shreyas Iyer's 44, they faltered against CSK's bowling, particularly Imran Tahir's four wickets and Ravindra Jadeja's three. MS Dhoni, who led from the front with the bat and showcased his brilliance behind the stumps, earned him the Player of the Match award.

Akash Madhwal truly stole the spotlight for MI, earning well-deserved praise as the team's hero with his exceptional bowling figures of 5 for 5

101 runs, MI vs. LSG, 2023

During an Eliminator match of the IPL at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) showcased their dominance, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a massive 81-run margin. MI set a challenging target of 183 runs, anchored by Cameron Green's explosive 41 and supported by contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

Despite Naveen-ul-Haq's four-wicket haul for LSG, MI's batting lineup remained relentless. LSG struggled in their chase and scored only 101 runs, losing wickets regularly. Despite Marcus Stoinis's and others' efforts, they couldn't withstand MI's bowling, especially Akash Madhwal, who claimed a remarkable five-wicket haul.
