From Eden Gardens to Wankhede, Checkout Top Records at THESE IPL Venues

Some of the most memorable records in the IPL took place in these venues

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has no shortage of records set at stadiums across the nation. Ahead of the 2026 season, we selected four home venues based on the number of trophies won by their franchises and compiled some records they hold.

In the following paragraphs, take a look.

Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Home to the Kolkata Knight Riders, we chose Eden Gardens as one of the four venues for this article, given the Riders have won three IPL trophies since 2008. Eden Gardens holds the record for the highest successful chase in the history of IPL. In 2024, during a game between the Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings, the Riders set a massive target of 262 runs, but the Kings chased it down.

Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad

We chose the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad as the second venue for this article, given that two home teams from this stadium have one title each – Sunrisers Hyderabad and the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. In March 2024, during the match between Hyderabad and the Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers scored 277 runs—this was once the highest team total ever recorded in the tournament's history until Hyderabad scored 287 runs in another match.

MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

Third on the list is Chepauk, home to the Chennai Super Kings, who have five IPL titles. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Akash Madhwal recorded the best economy ever seen in the Indian Premier League. In the Eliminator game between the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Supergiants, Mumbai’s Madhwal picked five wickets in 3.3 overs while giving away only five runs, registering an economy of 1.42. He also recorded one of the best bowling figures in the history of the tourney.

Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Finally, the fourth stadium we chose for this article is the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, home of the Mumbai Indians, with five IPL trophies. Among several records, the one that stands out is AB de Villiers’ 133 runs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 10, 2015. ABD had hit the runs in merely 59 balls at a strike rate of 225.42. His effort helped Bengaluru set a target of 235 runs, and in response, the Mumbai Indians could score only 196, losing by 39 runs.
