IPL Final Throwback: Stadiums That’ve Hosted IPL Finals Time and Again!

A tale of seven stadiums, countless memories, and the turf where champions were crowned

Every IPL season ends with fireworks, a lifting trophy, and a shower of confetti—but the turf sets the tone long before the celebrations begin. Some grounds have played host to history more than once, silently standing tall as the final curtain falls.

Over the years, certain venues have become synonymous with the IPL finale, each weaving its own little chapter into the league's ever-growing book of legends.

Let's start from the very beginning, where it all took off.

DY Patil stadium: The league's first dance floor

Finals hosted: 2 – 2008, 2010

Back in 2008, when the league was still finding its feet, DY Patil Stadium set the stage. Rajasthan Royals won the first-ever title here with a last-ball thriller over Chennai Super Kings. Two years later, on the same ground, MS Dhoni's men flipped the script.

In 2010, CSK lifted their maiden title, defending 168 against Mumbai Indians and sealing a 22-run victory. This Navi Mumbai venue may have bowed out early from the hosting game, but made its mark right at the start.

M. A. Chidambaram stadium: The fortress of fire

Finals hosted: 3 – 2011, 2012, 2024

Chepauk's steamy cauldron of noise and heat became a fortress for the Chennai Super Kings. In 2011, it roared as CSK put 205 on the board and crushed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs. But the very next year, the script flipped—Kolkata Knight Riders chased down 190 to stun the home crowd.

Fast forward to 2024, and KKR returned to seal the deal again, steamrolling Sunrisers Hyderabad in just 10.3 overs. Three finals, three stories, and one relentless crowd.

Eden Gardens: Where the roar echoes

Finals hosted: 2 – 2013, 2015

Kolkata's Eden Gardens has always brought a big-match vibe, and the finals held here were no different. In 2013, Mumbai Indians defended a modest 148 to outclass Chennai.

Two years later, MI returned to the same venue with bigger firepower, posting 202 and brushing aside CSK by 41 runs. For Mumbai, Eden truly felt like home away from home.

Chinnaswamy stadium: High scores and heartbreaks

Finals hosted: 2 – 2014, 2016

The Bengaluru crowd saw nothing short of a run-fest. In 2014, KKR chased 200 in a nail-biter against Punjab, clinching the title with just 3 balls to spare.

Two years later, Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off one of the most memorable heists, defending 208 against a desperate RCB, denying them glory in their own backyard by 8 runs. If any stadium knew how to stir drama, this was the one.

Rajiv Gandhi stadium: Home of nail-biters

Finals hosted: 2 – 2017, 2019

Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi Stadium doesn't just host finals—it specialises in one-run thrillers. Mumbai Indians edged past Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 and repeated the script against Chennai in 2019.'

Imagine winning two titles by a combined margin of just two runs—that's Mumbai for you, and that's Hyderabad's legacy in finals.

Dubai International stadium: Bubbles and breakthroughs

Finals hosted: 2 – 2020, 2021

During the pandemic years, cricket found refuge in Dubai. In 2020, Mumbai once again rose to the top, chasing 157 with ease.

A year later, CSK bounced back, outmuscling KKR with a 27-run win. The empty stands didn't dull the shine, and Dubai became the IPL's safe haven for two seasons.

Narendra Modi stadium: The new epicentre

Finals hosted: 2 (so far) – 2022, 2023 + set to host 2025

The largest cricket stadium in the world didn't take long to become a final favourite. Gujarat Titans lifted their maiden trophy here in 2022 by beating Rajasthan.

In 2023, a rain-hit thriller ended with CSK chasing down a revised 171, thanks to DLS against GT. And with 2025's finale heading back here, Ahmedabad's stadium is taking over as the IPL's go-to destination.
