Indian Americans in the US have made some elaborate plans to welcome PM Modi on June 18.
Indian Americans in the United States are eagerly awaiting to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming historic state visit to the country. To extend their warm welcome, the organisers have even announced plans for an 'India Unity Day' march to be held in 20 major cities on June 18, which is two days before the Prime Minister's arrival.
To say the least, Prime Minister Modi's state visit is his first to the US since President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden invited him. His visit will also include a state dinner hosted by the US President and First Lady on June 22.
Community leader Adapa Prasad, the national president of Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) USA, shared the excitement of the Indian American community about Prime Minister Modi's visit. He even talked about the 'India Unity Day' march from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. In fact, similar marches will also take place in 20 other cities, including at New York's Times Square and San Francisco's Golden Bridge.
He further emphasised that the Indian American community is now uniting to welcome the Prime Minister and make his memorable and proud occasion. As for the festivities, there will be a cultural extravaganza at Lafayette Square Park to showcase diverse Indian American groups and organisations. On June 21, there will be a grand cultural event spanning from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in front of the White House.
Finally, on June 22, several thousand Indian Americans will gather at the South Lawns of the White House to see President Biden and the First Lady welcoming Prime Minister Modi with a 21-gun salute.
Indian American leaders, including prominent figures like Ajay Bhutoria and Ashok Mago, have emphasised on the friendship between India and the United States. They believe the visit will pave a way for both nations in the fields of technology, trade, education, and clean energy.
Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US is ahead of India's hosting of the G20 Summit in September.
