Right from the time it was ruled by kings and queens to the period the British took over the state, Punjab is an antique land. Here are some must-visit historical places of importance in Punjab.
The historical Quila Mubarak
Also known as Bhatinda Fort, this historical monument is a living testimony of the yore. It was constructed in the Kushana period by King Kanishka. The fort has two segments: one is known as the QuilaAndroon and the other, Quila Mubarak. The QuilaAndroon was once home to the royal family as a result of which its architecture is a blend of Rajasthani and the Mughal creative work. This 11th-century Quila was once a gateway to Delhi for various rulers from outside India. Rajia Sultana was imprisoned in this historical fort. Currently, it is under the Archaeological Survey of India.
The Sheesh Mahal
Also called the Palace of Mirrors, it is situated in Patiala and it indeed is a palace, not for its architectural design or carvings but for its absolute beauty of mirrors. It is grand visually and was originally home to the Kings of Patiala. A portion of the Mahal is covered in coloured glasses, right from the walls to the roof, giving a sense of illusion and magnificence at the same time. The walls and ceilings portray the stories of the old ages. Outside the mahal are gardens, fountains, and a bridge called the LakshmanJhoola.
The Partition Museum
It is one of its kind museum housing documents and related stuff from the time of the Partition of India in 1947. The museum is located in Amritsar which is also home to Golden Temple. While the museum will give you in-depth knowledge about the state, its history, stories of partition, and lanes of Amritsar will give a taste of the cuisine of Amritsar.
