Sudha Murthy mentioned how no one believes that she can be the mother-in-law of the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Sudha Murty is an author and philanthropist apart from being the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. However, despite her achievements, she faced a situation when an immigration officer did not believe her residential address in London was '10 Downing Street' – which is the official residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
For the unversed, Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin prime minister of UK, is married to Sudha Murty’s daughter Akshata Murty.
Sudha Murty shared the incident on the latest episode of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, and revealed how no one believes that she can be the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister because of her "simple appearance".
"Once when I had gone, they asked me for my residential address. 'Where are you staying in London?' My elder sister was with me and I thought I should write '10 Downing Street'. My son also lives there (in the UK), but I didn't remember his complete address. But I finally wrote 10 Downing Street," Murty narrated on the popular show.
“That fellow (the immigration officer) looked at me and said, ‘Are you joking?!’” she mentioned
“I told him ‘nahi, sachchi bolti hu’ (No, I am telling you the truth). He thought I was joking. No one believes that I, a 72 year old, simple lady, can be the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister," she added on the show.
On the show, she also revealed how her husband Narayana Murthy has the same weight now that he had when they got married. "Narayana Murthy shaadi mein kitne kilos the abhi utna kilo hi hai (Narayana Murthy has the same weight now that he had when we got married). Because I am a bad cook, my husband has maintained his weight,” she joked leaving everyone in splits.
Meanwhile, last month, Murthy had mentioned how her daughter, Akshata Murty, “made her husband a Prime Minister." She said in an Instagram post, “The reason is the glory of the wife. See how a wife can change a husband. But I could not change my husband. I made my husband a businessman, and my daughter made her husband a Prime Minister.”
