We all know that Tesla Inc is the world’s leading electric car manufacturer, and it is finally about to enter the Indian EV market! This was confirmed by Elon Musk himself! The good news is that Tesla has already registered itself in India and have also set up its base in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The EV market leader Tesla has assured to that it would begin its operations in the country by early 2021. It is going to operate on sales-only mode, but would definitely consider local manufacturing if they receive a good response.
The company’s first offering for India is anticipated to be the Model 3 sedan, Tesla’s best selling model. The Model 3 sedan is currently Tesla’s most affordable EV that you can buy.
The EV giant Tesla is initially going to bring in the Model 3 as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), which would surely keep the EV’s prices high. But we can expect some amount of subsidy from the government, making a Tesla a bit more affordable.
So let’s check out what the Model 3 has in store for us:
Let’s talk about its variants
The Model 3 is available in three variants:
Standard Range Plus
Now what’s different about all three variants is their motor specifications, features and performances. It’s highly probable that only the Standard and the Long Range variants would be introduced in India initially.
The Model 3 offers two types of electric motor setups. The Standard variant comes with a single motor; on the other hand, the Long Range and Performance variants offer dual electric motors.
Both Long Range and Performance variants use the same motor, but the latter’s motor is better calibrated for instantaneous acceleration.
The Top speed reached by the standard variant is 225kmph, and it takes 5.3 seconds to reach from 0-96kmph.
The Long Range variant seems to hit slightly higher top speed of 234 kmph, and takes as little as 4.2 seconds to go from 0 to 96kmph.
Talking about the Performance variant, it can achieve a top speed of 261kmph and can reach from 0-96kmph in 3.1 seconds.
Standing up to its name, the Long Range variant offers the highest driving range. Next comes the performance and then the standard variants. Check how much distance each variant covers:
Standard variant goes up to 263 miles (423 kilometres).
Long Range variant goes up to 363 miles (569 kilometres).
Performance variant goes up to 315 miles (507 kilometres).
The Model 3 comes with a single large 15-inch infotainment touchscreen screen to take care of all your needs. The dashboard of the EV is extremely clean and does not sport any other switches.
The EV gets 12-way adjustable and heated front and rear seats. It also has a tinted glass roof with UV cut and heated side mirrors. You can find wireless charging and a 14-speaker audio system setup to enhance your audio experience.
Talking about the safety standards, the Model 3 has a five-star safety rating, with superior rollover control and crash protection. The EV comes with eight airbags as standard.
The most remarkable feature of the EV is the autopilot semi-autonomous driving technology. It is enriched with features such as blind-spot monitoring, park assist, navigation on autopilot, adaptive cruise control with lane changing feature, and emergency brake assist.
