Google to Start Adding Very Long YouTube Ads on Smart TVs: Here Is How to Skip Them

Currently, YouTube shows two 15-second ads on a video and it allows you to skip with a button.

Google has recently announced that it will start adding very long ads to YouTube videos that people watch on smart TVs. Google is expected to put one 30-second ad on the videos, and it will be unskippable. Currently, YouTube shows two 15-second ads on a video with a skip button, depending on the content they are viewing.

Notably, the new policy is only for people who watch YouTube Select content in the US market, and we are not sure when the same will be applied in other markets. Nonetheless, Google might end up announcing a similar policy in India as well if the new ad policy works well for the company.

In India, even if you don’t get to see a 30-second ad, you will still witness 15-second ads, which can be annoying at times. So, how can you skip those ads on YouTube? Let’s find out.

How to skip long ads on YouTube TV?

The only way, for now, to skip long ads on YouTube TV is to buy the company’s YouTube Premium subscription. But, there is no harm in that, as you don’t have to pay much. The cost of the YouTube Premium subscription is $11.9 in the US and only Rs. 129 per month in India.

Why is a YouTube Premium subscription good?

If you buy the YouTube Premium subscription, you can watch YouTube videos without ads on all devices, including smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs.

You can also get free access to the YouTube Music app, which means you do not need to pay for other services like Spotify to listen to ad-free songs.

The membership also supports the PIP feature, which means that you will be able to watch a video while using other apps. In the free version of YouTube, this feature is not available.

YouTube also plans to come up with "Pause ads"

Meanwhile, Google also revealed that it is introducing a new "Pause ads" concept to YouTube on smart TVs, which will basically pop up ads when a video is paused on TV.
