Glenn Maxwell's IPL turnaround

Over the years, Glenn Maxwell has not been able to replicate his performances in international cricket in the IPL. Glenn Maxwell has scored 1780 runs for Australia in T20 Internationals from 72 matches at an average of 31.78 and a strike rate of 158.2 with the help of 3 centuries and 9 half centuries and the best of 145 not out. These are brilliant numbers. However, Maxwell hasn't really been able to convert these numbers in the IPL as averages just 23.67 in the tournament over the years. Between IPL 2012 and IPL 2020, the only time Maxwell averaged over 30 was in 2014 and in 2017. In IPL 2014, he scored 552 runs from 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 187.75 with the help of four half centuries, but most of these runs came in the UAE leg of the tournament. In 2017, he scored 410 runs from 14 matches at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 173.18 with the best of 47. Apart from that, Maxwell has been a big disappointment. In fact in IPL 2020, while representing Punjab, Maxwell was not able to hit a single six in the tournament and managed just 108 runs from 30 innings at an average of 15.42 and a strike rate of 101.88. This is why eyebrows were raised when Maxwell went to RCB for over 15 crores in the IPL 2021 auctions. However, the batsman has started off the new season on a high note and appears to have already turned things around. "It's a very nice start, a new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. To start like this is really nice. It's nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom with AB to come and it's a very similar role I have in the Australian cricket team. The support staff have been backing me as well." "It's just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB. Maybe was pushed a bit too deep and expected to go from ball one, which I am not pretty good at. The more I don't bowl and hopefully I can keep contributing with the bat, the more happy I will be," Maxwell said after winning the MoM in RCB's 2nd match of IPL 2021.
