Foods you should avoid to get rid of itchiness

Itchiness is an uncomfortable skin disease which makes you want to scratch your skin. It is very much irritating and can lead to many other skin diseases. There can be several reasons behind it; like eczema, hormonal fluctuation, fungal infection, liver problem, insect bites etc. Also, the foods you are consuming play a huge role in this matter. So let’s take a look at the foods that can cause itchiness in your skin.

  1. ​Citrus fruits: ​Citrus fruits such as orange, grapefruit, lemons, lime are rich source of chemicals that cause eczema in your body. So if you are suffering from itchiness, try to avoid these fruits.
  2. Dairy Products: Dairy products such as milk, yogurts contain protein which reacts to your body and produces substances that cause itchiness. Milk can cause several skin diseases including eczema. It can also cause hives and rash in your skin. Swelling of lips, tongue, throat or face are some other problems caused by milk.
  3. Tomatoes: Tomatoes can cause itchiness to people who have eczema. If you are allergic to tomato plants; then as soon as you touch or eat a tomato, it will make your skin red and cause itchiness. Tomatoes contain several allergens that cause rashes and swelling in your skin.
  4. Nuts: Nuts are considered as one of the most common foods that cause itchiness. Protein found in nuts reacts to your body and promotes itchiness. Nuts such as peanuts, cashews, walnuts, almonds release immunoglobulin-E and T Cells, which cause itchiness in your skin. It causes watery eyes, scratchy throat and can lead to several life-threating dermatitis symptoms.
  5. Wheat: Wheat is a rich source of protein that causes itchiness in your skin. Wheat can cause swelling in your throat and mouth, watery eyes, hives, rash and redness in your skin. Wheat contains gluten, which reacts to your body and causes gluten allergy. So, avoid wheat if you suffer any kind of itchiness.
  6. Spices: Spices contain components that promote itchiness in your skin. Cinnamon, coriander, vanilla, garlic, fenugreek, cloves are the most common spices that make your skin itchy. So, try avoiding these spices if you suffer from itchiness.
  7. Seafood: Seafoods such as shellfish, scaly fish, oysters, prawns, yabbies are very much responsible for the itchiness in your skin. They promote the release of several chemicals that cause itching, swelling, hives and other skin allergies.
  8. Foods high in sugar: Sugar increases the insulin level in your blood, which results in itchiness. High blood sugar restricts blood flow in the feet and it makes your feet itchy. So avoid foods like cakes, chocolates, sodas to cure itchiness.
