If you are a lover of whodunits, then it is a fact probably accepted, that, Agatha Christie novels must be at the top of your list. Here are some ways that you can re-explore them, by watching some excellent film adaptations of these books!
Crooked House
Directed by Gilles Paquet Brenner this film, made in 2017, is a thrilling remake of Agatha Christie’s book, Crooked House. Private investigator, Charles Hayward, is approached by an estranged lover, Sophia Leonides. She convinces him to come to the Leonides estate, to investigate the death of Aristide Leonides, her grandfather. Hayward navigates through a series of family secrets, and his strange family members to catch the killer. What is unraveled is a horrific amount of secrets, and a conclusion, which will completely make you at your wits end! This is one of the most amazing buildups.
Murder in the Orient Express
This is another gripping film, which involves the fan-favorite, Hercule Poirot, which is played by Kenneth Branagh. With an excellent cast, including Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Daisey Ridley, and Michelle Pfeiffer amongst others, this mystery involves a death on a train. Poirot boards the train to investigate the death. The conclusion is one that shocks you! It is an excellent remake and is a good film to watch in your free time!
Death on the Nile
This is the latest film, made in 2022. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, this is one of the most engrossing plots. Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a river steamer turns deadly when murder breaks out, and then he is searching for the killer on the ship. This also has Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, as well as other prominent actors in the cast. It is an engrossing film!
Murder She Said
Agatha Christie being adapted into films is not a recent trend. In 1961, George Pollock directed a film, called 4.50 from Paddington by Agatha Christie. While traveling by train, Miss Marple witnesses a woman being strangled, in another train on a parallel track, and her body supposedly was thrown into the grounds of Ackenthorpe Hall. She manages to disguise herself as a housekeeper, and seeks employment, carrying out an all the while an investigation. Although an old film, it is excellent in terms of suspense. Horror and comedy are interspersed!
