Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2024: A Comprehensive Review of 3 Selected Indian Restaurants

Three Indian restaurants have made it to the prestigious Asia's 50 best restaurants in 2024.

The esteemed list is topped by Sezanne (Tokyo), followed by Florilege (Tokyo), and Gaggan Anand (Bangkok). The three selected Indian restaurants are Masque, Mumbai at 23rd rank. The other two Indian eateries are Indian Accent, New Delhi (26th) and Avartana, ITC Grand Chola, Chennai (44th).

Masque, Mumbai:

Mumbai’s Masque restaurant has been celebrated for its unique, ingredient-driven, and elaborate multi course tasting menu. It was started by by restaurateur Aditi Dugar in 2016. Now led by chef Varun Totlani, Masque has received Asia's 50 best restaurants award in consecutive years.

Indian Accent, New Delhi:

Established in 2009, Indian Accent redefined Indian dishes combining with global techniques and influences. Under the leadership of chef Manish Mehrotra and chef Shantanu Mehrotra, Indian Accent was awarded twice in consecutive years in Asia's 50 best restaurants. Currently, Indian Accent has 2 outlets apart from Delhi; Mumbai and New York City.

Avartana, ITC Grand Chola, Chennai:

Started seven years ago, Chennai’s Avartana is the perfect combination of south Indian flavours with modern techniques and fusions. Currently, it has 2 outlets apart from Chennai; Mumbai and Kolkata.

Ambience & decor:

Masque, Mumbai: The main dining area has around 12-15 tables. They will also provide an additional seating arrangement for a small group. The Masque tablewares are handcrafted, based on Japanese minimalism. The ambience is pretty warm and inviting, with a modern as well as sophisticated decor, making it a perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner or special occasion.

Indian Accent, New Delhi: The collaborative efforts of Asian paints, Punit Jasuja has totally transformed the outlook of Indian Accent. The dynamic alliance made this 110-seating arrangement of Indian Accent, a royal enchantment for a fine-dining experience.

Avartana, Chennai: The quintessential south Indian banana leaf is the main attraction of its decor. The chairs with silver upholstery and rustic earthenware are too good to experience. You will get an access to an open kitchen to observe your food preparation. Avartana also has a Private Dining Room for 10 guests.

Food & beverages:

Masque, Mumbai: For unabashedly hearty and comforting flavours, with a touch from Kashmir to Kerala, Masque is a must visit place. It gained acclaim for its unique 10-course meal. Indian Accent, New Delhi: Using the seasonal fresh ingredients and blending with quirky twists of spices, the chef delivers a contemporary yet traditional dish. That's the speciality of Indian Accent. For lunch, you will get 4-course menu with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian variations. The 6-course meal is available in dinner with an optional wine pairing.

Price & value:

Masque, Mumbai: The restaurant follows the concept of ‘wilderness-to-table’, mixing locally farmed ingredients with modern techniques.

The ten-course and eight-course Masque Menu is priced at Rs 4,500 and Rs 3,200 respectively. However, a 3-course mix-and-match meal is priced at Rs2,200.

Indian Accent, New Delhi: For two persons, the approximate cost would be around Rs. 5000-6000 for a 6-course dinner.

Avartana, Chennai: A meal for two people will range between Rs 4000 to 9000 excluding taxes depending on the menu.
