Some of the teams consistently score more than 200 runs throughout the tournament

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 became a paradise for batters who thrashed bowlers right, left, and centre to put some of the biggest scores ever seen on the scoreboards of T20 cricket. In fact, this season, on 52 occasions, at least one team in a match scored 200 runs or more.

As the year comes to an end, here’s a recap of the 200-run club in the IPL 2025.

Scores close to 300

The season witnessed two matches in which one team came close to reaching 300 runs but fell short by inches. On both occasions, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who scored 286 runs and 278 runs against Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively.

In fact, the team scored 200 runs or above in nine matches, winning seven games and losing only twice. The two losses came at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3 and Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 2.

Near 250

Three games in the tournament saw teams reach the 250-run mark but miss by whiskers. Punjab Kings (PBKS) scored 245 runs in one game against SRH but lost, whereas in another game, the Kings scored 243 runs and defended it to secure a victory. The third match, which saw a team nearing 250 runs, featured the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who scored 242 against SRH but lost.

Punjab Kings’ consistency

Apart from SRH, the Punjab Kings were also among the few teams to consistently score 200 runs or more, regardless of whether they won or lost. On some occasions, the team lost matches despite setting massive targets or came incredibly close to chasing them but missed by a few runs. From data available on ESPNcricinfo’s website, we calculated at least 12 occasions on which the Punjab Kings scored more than 200 runs—one of the reasons why the team reached its second-ever IPL final but, unfortunately, had another loss.

Only one 200

While there were several matches with scores such as 201, 202, and 210, only one game had a score of 200. In the 15th match of the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted a target of 200 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Surprisingly, Hyderabad, with its batting prowess, got wrapped up by KKR bowlers within 120 runs.

The IPL 2025 gave us some of the best batting performances, but it also became a venue where many felt the balance between batting and bowling was off. Therefore, next season, we do hope bowlers will also have their say, and hitting so many runs will become a tough affair.
