There is no combustion inside an electric motor

An ICE vehicle has combustion, which means it takes time for the fuel to burn and create energy. For example, an ICE car or motorcycle attains maximum torque at around 8,000 or 9,000rpm. To reach that point, an ICE vehicle takes time. Compared to the ICEs, an electric vehicle provides torque instantly because no time is wasted in reaching the ideal RPM point. 

As we all know, electric vehicles do not have gears

Electric vehicles speed up faster because they do not feature a gearbox. In short, the complex transmission system is missing and therefore, the power generated from the motor doesn’t need to wait. The motor builds the power seamlessly, with no obstacle. Not to forget, the unavailability of a gear system makes an electric vehicle much more reliable. 

No gear system means no shifting

The acceleration of an ICE vehicle also depends on the shifting of the gears made by the driver/rider. The better the shifting, the quicker the acceleration of the car/motorcycle. In an electric vehicle, the concept of shifting is simply missing because, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, EVs do not feature a gearbox. Not to forget, the missing gearbox also helps in shedding some weight off the vehicle.

To measure acceleration of a vehicle, the time required to reach 96 kilometres per hour from a standstill is calculated. Some of the quickest electric cars to reach the mentioned speed are Aspark Owl (1.7 seconds) and RimacNevera (1.9 seconds). Last but not the least, when it comes to motorcycles, the Lightning LS-218 can achieve the mentioned speed in 2.2 seconds.
