Things to Know About Arun Jaura, Hero MotoCorp’s New CTO

To bolster the company’s technology game, Hero MotoCorp has appointed industry veteran Arun Jaura; an IIT (Madras) alumnus

Hero MotoCorp has appointed Arun Jaura as the chief technology officer (CTO) to bolster the technology leadership of the company. As per a press release published by Hero MotoCorp, the newly appointed CTO will report to Dr Pawan Munjal, the CEO and Chairman of Hero MotoCorp. Before joining Hero MotoCorp, Jaura was serving as the Managing Director of Michelin India Technology Center.

Hero MotoCorp is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world and, given the competition in the automobile industry, the move from Hero is likely to drive the company forward with more positive results. Jaura is a technical expert with numerous years of experience under his sleeves and he has led several big names in the past. 

Jaura’s educational background

Jaura is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. He pursued his M Tech from the prestigious institute and was a pass-out of the 1991 batch. After M Tech, Jaura pursued PhD from the Concordia University in Montreal, Canada from 1992 to 1996. His PhD was focused on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for smart manufacturing. 

Jaura’s stint at DRDO

Jaura started his career in 1982 with the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation); an organisation that operates under the Ministry of Defence of the Indian government. At DRDO, he was responsible for developing servo and electrohydraulic weapon systems for battle tanks. Not to forget, for combat tanks, he developed hydro-pneumatic systems as well. Arun Jaura also worked on several subsystems used in fighter aircrafts.

Jaura at Ford Motor Co

After completing his PhD, Arun Jaura joined Ford Motor Co. and managed several Hybrid technology pilot programs. In 2005, he developed the world’s first vehicle that ran on hydrogen-hybrid in a joint venture with the Department of Energy in the United States. In 2006, Jaura returned to India. 

Jaura worked as a Senior Vice President, Vice President and also became an entrepreneur

After returning to India, Arun Jaura joined Mahindra & Mahindra as the Senior Vice President (Product Development for Automotive Sector). Later on, he also served as M&M’s CTO. After Mahindra & Mahindra, Jaura joined Pune-based Eaton Corporation as the Head of the Engineering Center. Soon, he became the Vice President (Technology). Last but not the least, he established TRAKTION in 2013, a company that offers consultancy about mobility.
