In the southwest of Thailand’s capital Bangkok, 130 km away, is the picturesque province of Phetchaburi. Temples, trails, historical places, adventure, this scenic place offers something for all. Read on to know more about this must-visit place. Cha-Am Beach It’s the most admired beach in the province and covers a stretch of 5 km soft sand and a swimmable ocean. Famous among both expats and locals, this lovely beach offers relaxation under the Sun, cheap street food and reasonable food options. Tham Khao Luang Cave It’s a must; you can’t complete a trip to Phetchaburi without visiting this mesmerizing cave. Once to escape past the monkeys, you see marvellous Buddha statue and images after descending into this magical limestone cave formation. You will be charmed by the 14-meter-long reclining Buddha statue and several other chambers with such statues. Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park Created by legendary King Rama IV, Phra Nakhon Khiri has several natural spaces, beautiful cobbled roads and Khmer-style temples to take away one’s breath. In the park, there is a 40-meter tall Phra That ChomPhet chedi, which is white in colourand raises gloriously into the sky such that it can be seen from miles. In the backdrop of a hill, there is also a palace that reminds of its glorious past. Wat YaiSuwannaram This is a fire temple and is reputed for its impressive murals. Build in the 17th century; these murals depict angels that are all distinctive and are wonderfully preserved given the age of the structure. There’s a pond around which several scenic structures are built and have scars left by the Burmese invaders in the past. You can also see Sala,a rest pavilion with the finest woodwork, which was once housed in Ayutthaya, the former capital!
