The various ways of making pancakes

For breakfast with Indians there, nothing beats the taste of paratha or poha with tea, in the west the culture of pancakes for breakfast equals the same zest. But slowly the trend of enjoying pancakes in India is also slowly catching up and has reached the kitchens of India. This sweet thick dosa like a cake made on the pan topped with choice of fruits or whipped cream, dipping of honey or maple syrup is a delight to hog on. Though traditionally a breakfast dish, it has now also become a popular dessert treat too.

In that order, home chefs and professionals have come up with numerous ways of making the pancake healthy and yet delicious. Read on to find out the various recipes.

The basic pancakes It all starts with making the basic pancake. Begin by combining one cup flour, two tablespoon of sugar, two tablespoons of baking powder, and half a teaspoon of salt. Mix these dry ingredients with one cup of milk, two tablespoons of melted butter, and one egg. Make it into a running thick mixture.

On the side heat a pan and add butter to it, keeping it on medium heat. Now, in small portions or size of the pan, pour the batter. Let it sit till it forms bubbles and after a minute or two flip and cook from the other side as well. Once done, top with fruits, whipped cream, honey and serve hot.

Red Velvet Pancakes To the basic batter of one cup flour, two tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of baking powder, and half a teaspoon of salt, butter, and egg, add one teaspoon of cocoa powder, a few drops of red food coloring. Once the pancakes are made on the pan, top it with cream cheese frosting.

Cinnamon Streusel To the basic batter of one cup flour, two tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoon of baking powder and half a teaspoon of salt combined in a running thick batter with milk and two eggs. On the side combine half cup flour, half a brown sugar, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and six cubed butter mix until the crumb like mixture forms.

When the pancakes are cooked from both sides, sprinkle the crumb-like cinnamon mixture on the top.

Corn Pancakes To the basic batter of one cup flour, two tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of baking powder, and half a teaspoon of salt add half cup cornmeal and one cup frozen corn kernels. Combined the dry ingredients with one cup of milk, butter, and egg forming into a running thick batter. Serve with honey or salsa.

You can try adding blueberries, chocolate chips, and other dry fruits for more taste.
