The Super 8 match between India and the West Indies is no less than a semi-final game
India and the West Indies are set to clash against each other in their last Super 8 game, a match that will decide which team of the two will proceed to the semi-final round. To be honest, the game itself feels like a semi-final match – a term we do not wish to hear when it comes to playing the West Indies. After all, 10 years ago, the West Indies broke India’s heart at the Wankhede with a brilliant victory.
A star line-up
Similar to the present squad, India’s 2016 batting line-up had no dearth of stars, and on the day, they batted in an impeccable manner. Rohit Sharma scored 43 runs, Ajinkya Rahane added 40 more, and Virat Kohli stole the show with his 89 runs off 47 balls that helped India post a mammoth target, i.e., 192 runs on the board. In short, the West Indies bowler could do nothing to stop India’s firepower.

If we are to compare the West Indies' bowling capabilities today, the scenario remains unchanged because the West Indies do not have an X-factor when it comes to bowling, which could favour the Men in Blue.
West Indies’ chase
In response to India’s 192 runs, the West Indies completed the chase by scoring 196 runs in 19.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. In the ongoing World Cup, India has a great line-up of bowlers, but they failed to contain the wrath of South Africa. The question is, can they stop the Indies' batting power from firing up? If we take the venue into consideration, India has a history of winning T20Is against the Indies at the Eden Gardens.

The loss in 2016 left India with heartbreak, and it took the Men in Blue another eight years to lift the trophy, whereas for the Indies, they won the trophy in 2016 but, since then, have not been able to touch the glory.

From losses at the hand of South Africa to 200+ scores against Zimbabwe, India and the West Indies have had a similar sort of tournament, because of which pointing out their strengths and weaknesses has been a tough cookie.

However, when AI was asked for a prediction, it favoured India because of the team’s home advantage, especially on a proven ground like the Eden Gardens. AI also highlighted that India’s better bowling department will prove to be the edge, and the team must go into the match with the reshuffled team, including Sanju Samson and Axar Patel.
The Men in Blue will take on the West Indies at 7:00 pm IST at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.
